Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Noor Faour. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Noor thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start big picture – what are some of biggest trends you are seeing in your industry?
As a fashion photographer who graduated from the Columbus College of Art and Design, I’ve witnessed several intriguing trends in the industry that have significantly shaped the way we perceive and create visual narratives. One notable trend that has caught my attention is the increasing focus on diversity and the breaking of cultural boundaries in the world of fashion.
In recent years, the industry has seen a remarkable shift towards inclusivity, celebrating models and designers from diverse backgrounds. As a Middle Eastern photographer, I have personally experienced the impact of this trend on both a professional and personal level. One particular project stands out as a testament to the power of breaking cultural boundaries in the fashion world.
I had the opportunity to collaborate on a shoot that featured models from various ethnicities, including Middle Eastern backgrounds, showcasing the rich tapestry of cultures often underrepresented in mainstream fashion. The story we aimed to tell was one of unity, highlighting the beauty that arises when different cultures come together to create something truly extraordinary.
This trend has opened up exciting opportunities for artists like myself to bring fresh perspectives to the forefront. No longer confined to traditional Western aesthetics, the fashion industry is now embracing a global palette of influences, allowing for a more nuanced and authentic representation of beauty.
However, as with any transformative trend, there are concerns that must be addressed. While the industry is making strides towards inclusivity, there’s a need for sustained commitment to genuine representation rather than tokenism. It’s crucial to avoid reducing diversity to a mere trend and ensure that it becomes an integral part of the industry’s DNA.
On the positive side, the trend towards diversity in fashion presents an array of opportunities for collaboration and creativity. By embracing and celebrating different cultures, we not only broaden the visual landscape but also contribute to a more inclusive and accepting society.
As a Middle Eastern photographer breaking boundaries, I find myself at the intersection of cultural storytelling and artistic expression. This trend has allowed me to challenge stereotypes and showcase the beauty and diversity of my heritage through the lens of fashion. It’s a thrilling time to be a part of an industry that is evolving towards a more inclusive future, and I’m excited to contribute to this positive change through my work.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Absolutely, let me introduce myself further. I am a fashion photographer of Palestinian, Lebanese, and American descent, and my journey into the world of photography has been a colorful blend of cultural influences.
My passion for photography began as a form of self-expression and a way to connect with my rich heritage. Growing up with a diverse background, I found that the nuances of my identity were often overlooked in mainstream media. This realization fueled my desire to capture the beauty of cultural diversity, and it eventually led me to pursue a degree in photography at the Columbus College of Art and Design.
As a fashion photographer, my work revolves around creating visually compelling narratives that transcend cultural boundaries. I specialize in capturing the essence of diversity, weaving together stories that celebrate the uniqueness of each individual, regardless of their background. From editorial shoots to fashion campaigns, my goal is to showcase the beauty that arises when different cultures converge.
The services I provide go beyond traditional photography; I offer a lens through which clients can communicate their brand’s commitment to inclusivity and authenticity. In a world where representation matters, my work serves as a bridge between cultures, fostering a greater understanding and appreciation for diversity.
What sets me apart is not only my technical skill but also my personal connection to the stories I tell. Being Palestinian, Lebanese, and American allows me to bring a distinctive perspective to my work, offering clients a fresh and authentic approach to storytelling. I believe that by embracing the richness of our collective cultural tapestry, we contribute to a more inclusive and tolerant society.
I am most proud of the impact my work has had in challenging stereotypes and promoting a more expansive view of beauty. Whether it’s a fashion campaign that features models from diverse backgrounds or a personal project that explores the intersection of identity and style, each endeavor is a step towards reshaping the narrative in the fashion industry.
To potential clients, followers, and fans, I want them to know that my brand is more than just photography; it’s a celebration of diversity and a commitment to breaking down cultural barriers. I invite them to join me on a journey of exploration and appreciation for the myriad expressions of beauty that exist in our global community. Together, through the art of photography, we can redefine the standards of beauty and create a more inclusive visual landscape.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Embarking on my academic journey, I navigated through the complexities of four distinct universities, each contributing a unique chapter to my story. My educational expedition began in Lebanon, Beirut, where I enrolled in Rafik Hariri University and later continued my studies at Notre Dame University. These experiences not only broadened my horizons academically but also exposed me to the diverse cultural tapestry of the region.
Graduating high school in 2015 marked the inception of a continuous college experience that has shaped the majority of my adult life. I dedicated my time wholeheartedly to pursuing my education and passion for photography, a commitment that required me to stay away from my family. The sacrifice of being physically distanced from my loved ones served as a poignant backdrop to my academic and creative pursuits, reinforcing the significance of my journey.
However, my trajectory took an unexpected turn due to political issues in Lebanon, compelling me to return to the United States. Undeterred by the challenges, I forged ahead, completing my associates at Columbus State Community College. This period marked a crucial phase of adaptation, as I acclimated to a different academic landscape and overcame the hurdles that arose during this transition.
The pursuit of knowledge and my passion for photography continued to be the driving forces propelling me to new heights. Currently, I am on the verge of completing my bachelor’s degree in photography at the Columbus College of Art and Design, with an anticipated graduation in December 2023. This represents the culmination of years of dedication, perseverance, and the unwavering commitment to my craft.
The political intricacies that forced me to alter my course underscore the resilience required to pursue education in challenging circumstances. As I reflect on my journey, I am not only gaining a comprehensive understanding of my chosen field but also developing a profound sense of adaptability and tenacity.
In every institution, in every country, and with every obstacle faced, I’ve grown both academically and personally. This multifaceted journey has shaped my identity and instilled in me a deep appreciation for the power of resilience. I am proud to carry this diverse tapestry of experiences with me as I approach the threshold of a new chapter in my academic and creative endeavors.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Building my audience on social media has been an exciting journey, shaped by a combination of networking, travel experiences, and active involvement in the fashion community. One pivotal aspect of my strategy has been leveraging opportunities to connect with individuals who share a passion for fashion and photography.
My journey began with attending and actively participating in Fashion Week Columbus, where I had the privilege of showcasing my work in 2021, 2022, and 2023. These events provided a platform to not only display my photography skills but also to engage with a diverse audience of fashion enthusiasts, models, designers, and fellow photographers. The exposure from Fashion Week Columbus served as a springboard for expanding my reach on social media.
Being part of the Columbus Fashion Council has also played a significant role in building my social media presence. Collaborating with like-minded individuals within the council allowed me to tap into a community that shared my passion. Through collaborative projects, events, and mutual support, we amplified each other’s content on social media platforms, reaching a broader audience.
Networking has been a cornerstone of my social media strategy. Whether through industry events, collaborations, or my travels, I’ve seized every opportunity to connect with individuals who appreciate and resonate with my work. These connections, formed organically through shared interests, have translated into a supportive and engaged online community.
For those just starting to build their social media presence, I would emphasize the importance of authenticity and meaningful engagement. Share your journey, not just your finished work, and let your personality shine through your content. Actively participate in conversations within your niche, comment on others’ work, and build a community around shared interests.
Utilize the power of visual storytelling. In the realm of fashion photography, your images are your strongest assets. Craft a cohesive visual identity that sets you apart and resonates with your target audience. Consistency in style and messaging helps create a recognizable brand on social media.
Lastly, be patient and persistent. Building a meaningful social media presence takes time. Stay dedicated to your craft, consistently share high-quality content, and engage with your audience authentically. Building relationships is key, whether online or offline. Connect with influencers and peers in your industry, attend events, and actively participate in conversations.
By blending networking, genuine engagement, and a commitment to your craft, you can cultivate a strong and supportive community on social media. Remember, it’s not just about numbers; it’s about building connections that fuel your passion and contribute to the growth of a vibrant and engaged audience.
