Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nomé Naku. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Nomé, appreciate you joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I have loved singing since I could speak. My parents always nurtured that part of me and it just never went away. Throughout high school I thought about the different careers paths that could interest me and I had a few cool options. I love animals, so I considered becoming a vet. I have always been interested in mental health, so I played with the idea of becoming a therapist, but the most clear picture I had of my future was being a musician. It was my first love and it just kind of unraveled that way.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Firstly, my name is Nomé Naku. I’m a musical artist, producer, and writer who performs progressive pop music that blends lush layered vocals with cinematic synths and global percussion. My music can be described as an electronic symphony that goes along side artists such as Aurora, Grimes, and Florence + the Machine.
Music has always been part of my life, so much so, that I studied it in college. There I learned how to produce for myself and really discover my own sound. My goal is to create a world around my music and bring people into this world. I have a map in my head with places my different songs come from.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I wish I knew I could produce for myself earlier on. It unlocked so many things I didn’t even know I was missing. Production is what truly allowed me to create something I was super connected with because it was all mine.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I get asked why I’ve chosen to pursue my art. The thing is, when you are a creative, or artist, it’s not a choice. It’s an urge that you can’t help but feed. If I stopped myself from making music to pursue other things, I wouldn’t be happy. I would constantly think “what if?”.
