We recently connected with Nomad Mr. Murk City and have shared our conversation below.
Nomad Mr. , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
If anything I would have started taking music more seriously early on. I started rapping when I was probably about 12 or 13. Back then it was just a hobby for me, something to kill time. Then I started battle rapping in cafeteria and corner cyphers. I never really thought about taking rapping professionally back then. Overall I feel that everything happens for a reason. I’m ready to drop some new music real soon. So stay tuned.
Nomad Mr. , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Like I was saying earlier I had been rapping off and on for years so I’ve always been an artist. But I didn’t start taking music seriously up until about 2006 when I met Dj B-Lord & my Pure Pain Records family. I was on the road with them for a few years behind the scenes. I was watching how artists were recording and promoting music and one day it hit me that I can really do this myself. From that point I recorded my first demo, a mixtape called “Dirt Roads And Skyscrapers”. After that the rest is history.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Speaking for myself, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is being able to connect with people from different walks of life through the music I make. It’s crazy to me when I get messages from strangers who tell me that one of my songs they heard helped get them through a rough period or hyped them up. That feeling is indescribable to say the least.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Just be yourself. Believe in yourself. Promote yourself. Not everyone will be a fan and that’s alright. Just focus on making quality records and remember YOU are the product. Treat yourself like a business. What I mean by that is that you and your music are the product so always put your best foot forward and be strategic in how you approach everything. Learn how to build strong relationships. And always remember to give credit where credit is due. Integrity goes a long way.
