We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Noluthando Ngubane a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Noluthando, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
I absolutely wish I had started creating content earlier than I did. Firstly because I feel like I would be more familiar with how certain things work and I feel like I would have much more exposure. I did procastinate a lot when I first started, I just used to make so many excuses just because I was scared too, I’ve had no one guide me in this journey, I’m just doing it on my own. I’m also grateful that I started when I did because I’ve learnt so much in the past year and I’m so proud of myself.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
So Simba is a creative. I am a lifestyle, beauty and fashion content creator. I am a YouTuber. I’ve just always wanted to be in the public eye, I wanted to influence people, I wanted to be the voice of those not loud enough, I’ve always wanted to share my experiences and advice with peopl. I felt that would help make the world a better place somehow. I only started creating content a year ago and I felt it was time. My life was kind of going well and I felt I was ready to learn along the way. I have not had anyone in my life who’s a creative helping me with my work. I do this alone, I’ve been working so hard and learning and teaching myself everything I needed to know about this industry. I still have a lot to learn but I think I can almost see the light. My content I can say mostly inspires people, so I moved to America from South Africa just about 2 years ago after I had dropped out of medical school. It was a very difficult time of my life and I just picked myself up and took the chance and here I am living my best life in another country. So my content is mostly just showing people you can be anything you put your mind too. My services often include reviews items or stores and giving my honest opinion to help my audience choose the best product for them. I do collaborate with brands and also just share my everyday life with my audience. I also have a cooking page, where I share my self taught recipes with my followers and just inspire people to cook and improve their cooking skills. I do huge sense of humor so when I share my vlogs of YouTube or other platforms, sometimes I share jokes just to make my followers day and so on. I still have a lot to learn in the industry but I am very proud of where I am at now, I have started working with big brands and apps to try and monetize my social media, and for me this is the biggest step because it is my ultimate goal to make a living out of this career. I discovered and researched about these opportunities on my own by myself and I’m just so so proud I never gave up and I am just praying for more consistency.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
As a creative I always wish I had someone educated me more about the technical stuff that goes on behind the scenes of content creation. I wish I had some tell me exactly what equipment I need and all that. Because it really been hard trying to put content out there but also making sure it is quality because that’s when you get the audience to engage and keep coming back.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
Most people struggle to understand why we as lifestyles creators choose to just publicly share our everyday lifestyles. This is because the people in the internet can be very harsh at times and they always say we cannot complain about it because we chose to be in public, which I think is extremely unfair. I choose to share what I want you to know and I just wish more people would be understanding and respectful of this.
