We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nolan Jae. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nolan below.
Hi Nolan, thanks for joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
The biggest risks I’ve taken happen to be very recent. As I am writing this I’m currently in Australia living with my cousin. Life hasn’t been the easiest recently I’ve had to deal with a lot of loss. My great grandmother passed away last year and it’s been hard to cope with it. Writing music never left my mind but performing and creating became increasingly more difficult. After some time to reflect I know now that making music is what I’ll do forever and nothing will stop that no matter the obstacle. The opportunity to leave America and visit Australia and my Cousin was a sign I knew I shouldn’t pass up. Whilst being here in Australia I’ve been able to take time to myself to really re evaluate who I am as an artist and who I want to be/portray myself as a person. I feel like for the longest time I’ve been a ghost to everyone around me subconsciously falling victim to my insecurities. I apologize for being gone so long. I’m coming back and better than ever. I hope those you all that are watching welcome the change.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi everyone! My name is Nolan Jae I’m an independent artist from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania that makes pop/rock music. my relationship with music started back before I can even remember. from 3 to 13 my mother put me through church choir and while I was in school I always took chorus. Music has always been apart of my life it’s gotten me through tough times and happy times. I work everyday on my song writing I’m a perfectionist in that way my friends say I’m a little too hard on myself but if I’m not giving it my best and doing my absolute hardest then how will I know if I deserve to make it? My developments through music are what I’m most proud of, going from making songs to get over breakups and for therapy to creating with the purpose of having the listener enter into a world within my mind. I want my music to be an escape from the hardships in peoples lives. You are never alone when you have music that’s something I truly believe. If you enjoy what you hear from me know I welcome and love you.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My mission as impossible as it sounds is to be the best. I want to prove to the world that I am worth being listened to and being remembered. I’ve sacrificed a lot to get to the position I’m in currently and everyday I am grateful for those that support me. My father once said that in order to be best you need to carry yourself as the best and quite truthfully I haven’t. I feel I’ve always been one step behind trapped in my thoughts and that’s put a damper on my career in music but not giving up and continuing even when every odd is stacked against you will prove to the world one day that you will be the greatest. In whatever path you choose as long as you feel it is made for you and you love it never give it up because that is your freedom. Cherish it and don’t let anyone tell you differently not even yourself.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a singer songwriter is the performance. There’s really no limit to the potential of performance and I hope to some day put on the most awe inspiring shows. Hearing the crowd cheer and sing along to my music is just amazing honestly I love it, every aspect of putting on a show and being an entertainer. if you’ve had the chance to see me live you know that every performance is better than the next I always strive to keep improving and never plateau.
