We recently connected with Noemy Santos and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Noemy, thanks for joining us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My parents made the right decision of bringing my siblings and I to the United States for a better quality of life. The opportunities that this country provides, including better education, health care, and career prospects, cannot be found where I’m from .Being here has also exposed me to a diverse range of cultures, which has broadened my perspective on the world and life. I will be forever grateful for the chance to live and thrive in a society that values freedom, equality, and democracy. Thanks to my parents foresight and sacrifice Im on the path to achieving my goals and living my best life
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’ve always been a huge people person, I’ve always enjoyed getting to know others and getting to know what their journey is like and I feel like that’s what my guest help me a lot with. We all have different experiences in this life and we can always learn from others and being a bartender allows me to have an open mind to everything and everyone around me. I always show up for myself because this is what I love to do and something I’m genuinely happy to do and doesn’t just feel like a chore. It’s all about my connections that I make and the new friendly faces that surround me. My guest come to me to celebrate or to enjoy a drink with their friends or by themselves and sometimes they come during a bad day and it makes me happy to know sometimes I can put a smile on their faces even on a bad day.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My ultimate goal is being able to show my people that anything is possible. As a Mexican women I want to show others how to grow instead of thinking they have to shrink. We’re at a different time now than when I first came to the United States and Im glad to be part of the change Back in the days bartending was a man dominated industry and now seeing women behind the bar makes me feel empowered and that it’s what I would like to do for others. I always enjoy creating new drinks for others to enjoy that is different from the rest and makes them think of me their bartender or the bar itself every time they think of my unique drinks.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The biggest lesson a had to unlearn was thinking that women were only made to be housewives, cook, clean, and parent the children. I come from a very rural part of Mexico where that is the normal lifestyle. Women clean and men work and we solely rely on the man to do it all. The lifestyle here from there is so different because here we have a chance to be our own person without being told working isn’t what we’re supposed to do. Here a woman can do just about everything a man can do and I had to learn that here and unlearn what I learned in Mexico. We don’t need to rely on a man and it doesn’t mean we don’t need one because my husband is amazing , he supports me in everything I do. It’s just different seeing the women here and in Mexico but unlearning that made me be the woman I am today.
