Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Noemy Alonzo. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Noemy, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
I will say my parents raised me with a lot of values. I will forever be thankful for inspiring me and motivating me to keep going in life. It wasn’t easy for me at certain points in my life especially in college after high school . I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I was clueless or maybe I was having an ADHD moment in wanting to do many things. At one point after trying to pursue photography then animal sciences, my mom had a thought one day and asked me why don’t you go to cosmetology school since she would watch me watch a lot of beauty gurus in YouTube back in the day. Then fast forward I ended up transferring to Los Angeles Trade Tech School that had the cosmetology program. I started back in 2017 for 2 years i was focused in school . Would I say it was easy ? No no it wasn’t it was a challenge especially everything that came with cosmetology . It’s not only doing hair makeup nails with that there is so much theory behind it. Getting constructive criticism by professors really would get to me. If there is one thing that my parents gave me was the motivation not to give up and supported me any way they could . This kept me going and in 2019 without God and my parents I wouldn’t of walked stage not only with my Associates Degree but also my certificate in Cosmetology.
Noemy, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi my name is Noemy Alonzo I’m 30years of age . I’m an Aquarius so very quirky, creative and humanitarian. I love creating beauty content. I’ve been a licensed cosmetologist for 6 years now. If I’m not creating content I’m either home reading writing or drawing and if I’m out you’ll find me in a museum. Let’s backtrack and tell you about a young girl who loved playing with Barbie dolls and using her imagination . I never watched my mom apply makeup because she never used makeup even in her young adult days. Fast forward to middle school a lot of my friends started to wear eyeliner and mascara And so i remembered very vaguely wanting a mascara. My mom had bought me my first mascara and i remember it was a white tube I believe the brand was cover girl . Then I guess I wanted to wear eyeliner and I’d ask my friend to apply liner during lunch time. I didn’t think of it much of getting into the beauty industry. Then High school came along and i remember having a computer at 15 I started to surf the web and discovered YouTube looking for something to watch in my recommendations I came across a well known beauty guru at that time and I became so interested after I finished watching it . That’s when I became so curious about playing with makeup yet I never saw it as a career I would later choose. So after my high school days were almost to an end a friend asked me what I wanted to be and mind you I don’t ever remember telling her that I wanted to be a cosmetologist. Fast forward I went to cosmetology in 2017 and graduated in 2019 .i think what sets me apart from everyone else is my personality as much as I can work independently I enjoy working as a team. I would say I’m proud of myself for accomplishing many things such as making it on ENews having the chance to connect with a lot of other talented artists . I enjoy educating clients or even friends about makeup products and skincare products.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I remember starting Cosmetology school in 2017 . I took a makeup course and I wanna say that’s when I decided to make a separate account for just makeup, hair, anything beauty related . I’ve got to say I’ve grown slowly over the years with my audience very organically. Being consistent and engaging with the audience is the key to keep them on the lookout for more beauty content . I think when you are starting or if you think about making a separate social handle make sure to use hashtags tag any brands to get noticed . Write a catchy caption and also hashtags are in important. Also another thing I would say is to just have fun !
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When i started community college I wanted to pursue photography. Photography was one of my favorite hobbies during high school so I figured I should make a career out of it. Due to all these apps in everyone’s phones I was discouraged because I didn’t believe that no one wants to go to a studio and get their pictures taken and because my pictures weren’t the best . After taking two different photography classes I decided I wanted to go another tour, so I tried to take required curriculum classes. One of those classes was chemistry, yet at some point I ended up dropping the class because not
Only was it at night time but because it was too complex to understand anything. After that the rest is history
