We recently connected with Noel Greene and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Noel , thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
Just in terms of songwriting, it’s really cool seeing how far I’ve come as a writer. I started this band when I was just a kid around 12 or 13 when I was really getting into the genre of punk as a whole and it’s just wild to see how much I’ve grown when taking into consideration life experience and also different musical influences I can really sink my teeth into. Whenever I hear something new and it really resonates with me and fuels my creativity so now I can kinda draw from a number of different influences (with a good bit of range too) and try to formulate my own songwriting style. And I’m young so I’ve got a long way to go but it’s just really impressive to look at how far I’ve come and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the future!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Noel Greene and I am the singer and guitarist for the Burlington NC based punk band Orphan Riot. I’ve always been drawn to music and have had a creative edge for as long as I can remember so even from a young age I’ve always had that work ethic and drive to create and get my art out there. I started the band when I was in middle school and I built it up from the ground to what it is today.
In terms of my audience I really just want to make music that people can resonate with and derive the same amount of enjoyment that I get from some of my favorite bands and artist. Just knowing people appreciate and enjoy my art lights me up like you wouldn’t believe!
I’d say my favorite part about playing music would be live shows. I absolutely love performing and keeping everything high energy and enjoyable. It all comes from the heart and people can really tell that.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Just knowing that people enjoy and are moved by my music in some sort of way! I’ve always had a deep emotional connection with my favorite bands and songs and I can’t tell you how rewarding it is to know that someone was really moved by my art and that it had a real impact on them.
It’s like when you go to see a band live and you can really tell that they’re having the time of their lives up there and are giving it their all. You know for sure whenever it’s coming straight from the heart and I just wanna do what I can to give it 100% whenever I’m on stage.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I mentioned earlier that I started Orphan Riot when I was only 13 and because I was that young I had to earn my stripes so to speak and show a whole lot of people in the local scene that I was taking this seriously. It took some people some time to come around but a lot of others really took me under their wing and would help out any way they could cuz they were really impressed to see us playing older style punk rock!
