We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Noe a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Noe, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The most meaningful project so far is one that will be launching in a month so, fingers crossed it goes well! I was inspired to start the Oculta Latin dance series (Salsa & Bachata socials held in secret locations around Cincinnati) after being involved in Don’t Tell Comedy, a secret location series for local comedy shows. I thought, why not mesh that concept with Latin dance? It seems like the perfect way to generate even more excitement around dancing, community, and inspiring venues.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I got into DJing Latin music a little over a year ago, and it quickly led into event organizing as well. I’ve been a Latin dancer for over 10 years now, but my love for the music led me to want to take on a different role in the scene. I’m currently the resident DJ for CinciMovement, a Latin dance company based in Northern Kentucky. We’re very focused on using music, dance, and fun events to bring together people from all different backgrounds and walks of life. I’m most proud of the family culture we’ve been able to curate, the students we’ve been able to see grow, and the friendships we’ve seen form through our classes, events, and group outings outside of dance.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
My goal with my social media accounts is to build up a network of people in our city and surrounding cities that share a love of Latin dance and meeting new people. I’ve worked on intentionally crafted a brand image that reflects the things we care most about as a company – events that inspire growth, connecting with others, and embracing individuality. I started building my network by announcing my new DJ account on my personal account to connect with existing friends and family. From there I branched out by sharing video content, tagging others that would reshare, and connecting with new people in person that I would meet at dance events.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Leveraging my passions and skills to bring people together, provide something to bond over, and the events that I host/am part of also give me an excuse to spend even more time with the people I care about!
