We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nocturnal Dez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Nocturnal Dez thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
Learning the craft about your field is such a wild ride. I used to be under the impression that there was some particular destination of greatness that I needed to achieve. So it put me in a space of obsession when it comes to creating music. Leading me to always seek out knowledge when it comes to creating. Asking questions is big part of the craft. Reading books are great but asking someone who is actively participating in the field you are in, or desire to get into is always best. For the obsessors like myself, learning the craft is a never ending journey but a rewarding one.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Id like to think of myself as an ordinary man with an extraordinary story from my point of view. I cant make you understand my emotions I can just tell you how I feel. The best way for me to do that always was in writing. Leading me to eventually put instrumentation behind my words and deciding that I wanted to become an artist. Im currently am working on a project titled ” Take It Up With God” that will be executive produced by Killanova. Ima also apart of a collective of creators that is all about unity within the industry. “Our World Now” provides artist, models, photographers, producers, fashion designers, and content creators the services needed to bring their vision to light. With the help of our liquor sponsorship we can also provide any drinking services needed for events. Currently im most proud of the opportunities we have set up for New York Fashion Week. Ive been able to work with other artist also as a songwriter. Being apart of the “Songwriteclub” has opened up my creative palate working with R&B artist, hip hop. pop, and reggaeton.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
It might seem very simplistic but whats most rewarding is I get to do what I want with my life. Alot of people can make things, an instruction manual can show you how to make something by following steps. But creating to me at least, is a way of life. Its a life of curiosity, im always looking forward to learning. Mind you I wasn’t always this way I used to chase the dream of becoming an artist or creative. Once I stopped chasing and just became an artist doors started to open up for me. So thats another rewarding thing id assume.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Im currently reading “Rich Dad Poor Dad” by Robert Kiyosaki and its changing the way I look at money, giving me a lesson on assets and liabilities for real. “Mastery” by Robert Greene is another one that im going through thats great. The movie “Limitless” is probably how im feeling these days. Im not sliding around town in a luxury car (yet) like Bradley Cooper but the idea of having no limits in life is what ive been on mindset wise.
