We recently connected with Noah V. and have shared our conversation below.
Noah, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
It has been an ongoing hurdle in the creative industry overall, where writers are and have not been appropriately compensated–hence this writer’s strike we currently find our writing community in. That being said, it has been extremely difficult to obtain a a consistent full-time living from this gig. With the music industry ever-changing and streaming being a big deal in the royalty department, I find peace in knowing and believing that God’s timing is everything and what is for me is for me! The fact that making music is therapeutic for me, I don’t put the unnecessary pressure on myself worrying about what and when my break will happen. It has always been about making sure I do what I’m supposed to do and holding myself accountable in my work ethic.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Noah Venerable, singer, songwriter, and musician from Pasadena, CA. Like many today, I started singing in church at an 8 years young. Once I realized I had a natural ear for music and harmony, I continued to explore music playing trumpet in primary school band and dabbling in piano lessons, while still developing my voice every week at choir rehearsal. Fast forwarding to post college (Arizona St.) I interned at Motown Records/Universal Music Publishing Group, which helped me realize how this engine works and how I could contribute my gifts in order to the best of my abilities.
In 2022, I was casted to be in a songwriting competition called ‘Writer’s Block,’ held by grammy award-winning songwriter and successful R&B artist, Eric Bellinger. Though information regarding airing has yet to be revealed, I find this to be my most proud moment in my budding journey because the selection process and the experience within filming the show confirmed that I am doing what I am called to be doing. The network of people and executives I have been introduced to are pieces to the puzzle that are making the picture of my dreams begin to look like something beautiful.
In recent years, I’ve also picked up learning the electric bass. I was born in the 90’s but raised in the funk/disco era of the 70/s and 80’s. Bass is one of those instruments I really wish I would have picked up at a younger age, but I am grateful for the journey and challenge it presents. I pride myself in being a forever student of music and find comfort in knowing I can continue to always learn and explore different aspects of music.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
This was the question I asked myself when deciding to pursue being a creative as a full-time career. I had to be satisfied in knowing my place within this industry and know that my footprint would forever be attached to any magic that made and makes the world feel how special the moment creating it felt. I find joy in knowing that my ideas and lyrics could be heard by millions of people and sung by thousands of fans in a stadium or at a festival–that feeling, I imagine is indescribable and wildly addicting. I don’t have to be the main artist in the spotlight, just let me write their song.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
March 16, 2020, I received a perfect annual review from my job, signing for the maximum potential raise at the time. The next day, I received notice from that same employer that they were closing their doors due to the pandemic of Covid-19. On March 19, 2020, my Mom passed away. So that’s Mom and job gone in the span of 3 days–one month before my 30th birthday. While this devastation took me to dark places, there was a decision I had to make about carrying out the promise I made to her about maximizing my gift. She would always tell me growing up, that it was always spoken over my life that I have the gift for music. I want to carry out that promise and execute everything I can to be successful enough to take care of my family and live my desired comfortable lifestyle.
