We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Noah Howard. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Noah below.
Noah , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
I wish I started my creative journey sooner because I have always enjoyed storytelling and narrative illustration. As a child, I used my hyper imagination to fantasize about adventurous and heroic tales. Now I can use the illustration and storytelling skills that I have developed to visualize these stores through my art.

Noah , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am Noah Howard, an visual illustrator who specializes in character design, background design, and storytelling. In 2022 I graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) with a BFA in Illustration. During my time at MICA, I focused on growing my character, and background design skills where I was able to produce a strong portfolio. Prior to undergraduate school I focused on my digital art and graphic design skills in highschool at the Baltimore Design School (BDS) in Baltimore, Maryland. I’ve always desired to pursue art as a full time career. Since then, I have continued to evolve my work. I have completed previous commission works too. I’m interested in bringing unique and eye-catching visuals to life for clients. Besides my educational and art experience, I’ve had professional experience in customer service and engaging with the community. My dedication allows me to use my free time working on short one page stories and narrative illustrations. My focus as an independent illustrator now is to continue to produce and share my work.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I want to use my illustration skills to tell stories that inspire other creatives like myself. I’m currently working on a story that I have had in the works for sometime called MADDOX. My vision is to illustrate a story about young friends navigating their way in the world. This particular story is inspired by the comic AKIRA, by manga artist and writer, Katsuhiro Otomo. I’m also inspired by a lot of comic and manga artists like Rick Remender, Guillaume Renard, Aiyo Matsumoto and Kazuya Tsurumaki. These are the storytellers that inspired me to create my own story. So far I have developed a concept piece outlining the characters for the story. Overall, I aspire to work from small industry companies to companies like Cartoon Network, Disney, Pixar, Nickelodeon and more.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, being able to connect to other people with similar interests through my artwork is the biggest reward. My art allows people to witness my imagination and creativity. For that reason, I aim to create images that represent people like me. It’s important that my work accurately reflects what is true to me so that I can genuinely feel appreciated for what I make.
