We were lucky to catch up with Noah Griffith recently and have shared our conversation below.
Noah, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you recount a story of an unexpected problem you’ve faced along the way?
I have a neuromuscular disease called Friedreich’s ataxia and have gone through a lot of trials, including losing my father, to get to where I am and be successful.
Noah, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I was a journalism student at Auburn University. I grew up playing sports such as baseball and basketball but lost the ability to play with my Friedreichs Ataxia diagnosis in 2018. I wanted to stay involved in the work of sports and I found writing to be a good fit. I do sports writing as well as blogging and disability advocacy by speaking to pharmaceutical companies and health professionals with a company called FARA.
I currently cover the Atlanta Braves for Athlon Sports, do freelance sports reporting for the Opelika Observer and write monthly blogs for my site called Knowin’ Noah.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I want to show that people with disabilities are capable of more than the stigma allows people to think.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
You have to grind to make a name for yourself. It doesn’t always feel like it’s paying off at first but it takes hard work to set the foundation for yourself.
