We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Noa Arias. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Noa below.
Noa, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Finding those key vendors can often be make or break for a brand. Can you talk to us about how you found your key vendors?
When working with fabric that people will be wearing directly on their skin, especially lingerie, the feel (aka hand) of the material is of utmost importance. We launched our business in the middle of the pandemic, so finding a fabric manufacturer and getting to touch and feel fabrics in person was impossible.
I started by sourcing fabrics from various vendors I found on the internet. At one point, I found a site with leftover fabric that looked exactly like what we needed – stretchy, lace, scalloped at the edge. So I bought a ton of it and, when it showed up at my house, it was so thick that it wasn’t usable for lingerie. How was I to know from looking at it online?
The silver lining was, the website told me who the manufacturer was, and it turns out they were a premier fabric manufacturer! We did some googling and reached out to the manufacturer and they wouldn’t give us the time of day. But after some persistence, and more persistence, we finally got our foot in the door. And the rest is history!
Noa, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My mom and I founded a company called Bloomers Intimates and we offer full coverage, stylish and comfortable designs for women of all ages and shapes. The idea for Bloomers Intimates came about in the first pandemic summer, when my mom and I were folding laundry together. My mother picked up a pair of her tattered knickers and started lamenting about how she couldn’t find anything like these undies anywhere. They were high-waisted, full coverage rear, super comfortable and still sexy. We went on a hunt to find something similar on the market and, when we came up short, we decided to make it ourselves.
Most lingerie companies these days are targeting, or designing for, women whose bodies are still the same as they were when they were 18. What makes us different is that we’re offering sexy lingerie for women whose bodies have changed. After a baby, gaining a few pounds or a few years, women need a little more from their lingerie. Our lingerie offers all the comfort, coverage and support women crave, while still keeping them true to their sexiest selves.
Before we launched, the only way you could feel comfortable in your undies was if you were wearing big, cotton granny panties. And if you wanted to feel sexy and have no panty lines, you had to wear a thong. That’s no longer the case with Bloomers Intimates! Our high-waisted, full coverage designs are not only stylish and comfy, they also eliminate dreaded panty lines.
I am most proud of the response we’ve gotten from our customers. We’ve gotten emails from customers who have been searching for undies like ours for years. They’re so happy to have found us! It makes me feel great to hear that we are filling a real need in the marketplace. We’re also giving back to the community by partnering with The Undies Project to provide unworn undies to women in need. Because everyone deserves to look and feel great in their skivvies.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
We’ve found that paid advertising on Facebook and Instagram has been the best source of new clients for us, specifically video ads. We have a product that you need to see from multiple angles and videos provide those necessary visuals in a dynamic way.
We’ve also seen success with media hits, specifically in online fashion publications. Our target audience is reading these publications and seeing our product on those sites really legitimizes us as a brand.
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
My co-founder and business partner is my mom, so I have know her for quite some time;). We are an interesting match and our skills are complementary, which is great. My mom was a former tech entrepreneuer and has more of a business/financial/management mind and I am the brand marketer. I fill her in on what my peers are doing and interested in, and vice versa. It’s been a fun experience!
