We caught up with the brilliant and insightful N’kole Bryant a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
N’kole, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
I hope that my legacy will be one of Peace, Love, Light, Strength, and Understanding. I want to inspire a nation of people to never give up on themselves…Never Give Up On You!! I hope my legacy will assist in bringing about change in Triple Negative Breast Cancer research, as well as, Mental Health issues for all women and men, especially Black Women and Black Men. I want to leave a legacy of Guerilla Journalism and Activism that my sons and community will be proud of. Capturing life stories is my legacy, Changing life stories will be my legacy.
N’kole, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Peace, Love & Greetings– Allow me to properly introduce myself, I am N’kole Bryant, and I am the Founder/CEO of WarriorQueen, and I will be a 3-year Triple Negative Breast Cancer Survivor this September. WarriorQueen was created after I began my cancer fight in 2019. I want to bring light to Triple Negative Breast Cancer, and how aggressive this form of breast cancer is, especially, for women of color. I also want to help guide cancer patients and their caregivers with getting through cancer and the mental health aspect of this entire ordeal as well. No one speaks on the mental toll that this takes on you, but also the caregivers who are usually family who take on this mentally as well.
I am now the CFO of our 501C3 Nonprofit Corporation, Suits For Judah, which I began working on hard during my cancer battle, we have 4 Mighty Pillars that help describe exactly what we do here and those are: Mentorship, Exposure, Entrepreneurship, and Empowerment–for more info check out the page.
I am Executive Producer & Director of Photography for Word On Da Street W/Judah our tv show. Here is where we showcase events going in our communities, interview local activists, grassroots organizations, as well as cover the celebrity Red Carpet Premiere Events here in Dallas.
I enjoy photography and videography so much, and I have been doing this for past almost 3 years now; so I began my own photography business which is, Melanin Knicknackz Photos & Thangz–MKPTz!
What sets me apart is that I let go of fear and embraced the #NewLifeWhoDis mentality. This was perfect for the type of journalism we do, which is called, Guerilla Journalism. This means that we give you the raw, unedited entire version of the event/interview because why only show you 30 seconds of a great event; that’s not enough for anyone to want to come out. We also empower ourselves by utilizing the tools that we have available to us to film because we do not have a $100,000 filming budget. This make me extremely proud I have produced 2 documentaries that are currently on RokuTV, and I am so grateful that we were able to get the people’s stories out to the world, and they entrusted me to capture their emotions with my camera lens. I enjoy connecting with everyone we interview because they genuinely trust me, and truly open up to me.
What I am Most Proud of is because our work we have had the opportunity to be on NPR’s Consider This Podcast, to teach a workshop on How Filmmaking and Acting Can Help Mental Health at the Art Inspired Healing and Wellness Festival as well as cover the Festival, speaking to students and staff at the college I graduated from, Navarro College, about body image and self confidence, winning the Not My Son Community Humanitarian Award 2021, and I was just chosen to participate in a 2-Year fellowship with Independent Sector’s Bridging Fellows.
Being able to serve, share and engage with the community through my volunteer work with other grassroots community organizations and nonprofits across Dallas, and my camera lens drives me to continue to do this work because I am inspired to be a warrior for truth, peace, love, and understanding.
Be You, Be Great, Be Inspired!!
How’d you meet your business partner?
‘I met my business partner, Judah Agbonkhina. I was running the group and he dropped some truth that blew my mind, and as a fellow poet, I just wanted to connect because of the poetry and the sheer genius demonstrated in his writing. Who knew that we would build several successful businesses together as well as individually.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I believe wholeheartedly that it was Consistency & Quality, period point blank. We knew that relevancy was and is important, so we made sure to get as much coverage as we could and interview people. Posting, Posting, Posting and Sharing, Sharing, Sharing…that’s how you create a buzz. Next thing you know, you are getting called, emailed, etc, and being asked to cover events. So stay consistent, and be sure that you do quality work.
