Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Niza Colon. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Niza, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
One of my favorite things to tell people about my business is the reason behind the name, it came to me almost immediately after deciding to venture on my podcasting journey. I wanted my podcast/company name to speak for itself while also being unique to me and only me. My entire life people always told me that I tend to speak my mind before thinking but in my head i’m just speaking MY opinion and if someone doesn’t like it… well Sorry if I Offend You. I believe we are all entitled to our own thoughts, feelings and overall experiences no matter the topic. We should all accept that everyone has individuality but we do not always need to agree with one another; that’s what makes for the best conversations. My podcast is a place where people can come and enjoy honesty in its truest form, I do this by minimizing edit cuts and bloopers; no topic is off limits. I embrace the good with the bad feedback and keep pushing forward.

Niza, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Well my name is Niza aka Neesa, pronounced knee-sah. I am a spicy, full of personality latina from Queens, NY and Clearwater, FL– I say both because my life has been a mixture of both cities. I believe my outspoken personality and style stems from my city roots whereas my chill, beach loving and open mindedness has flourished in the Sunshine state. I’ve always been into media, you know music, arts of all sorts, fashion, sports etc– if it has a hot topic I know about it and I always gave my opinion on it even if no one asked me. I was always part of a show in my school like the morning announcements as much as I could be, and when I was deciding what university to go to my counselor asked me, “what do you like to do?” and my answer was, “well I like to talk and be in front of the camera..” and from there he encouraged me to look into media reporting. I was never the weather girl or sports news type of girl… I wanted to be on E!, MTV or Revolt TV something not just tied into one specific genre of reporting, I wanted to have my own talk show. Fast forward I started my own talk show on UCF’s media station called, “We need to talk…” This birthed my stepping stone into audio shows and so much more. I loved the freedom of creating my own week to week content and having control of my environment! I started podcasting with a group of guys I knew from mutual acquaintances and we had an article written on our podcast, Deadass Tho. From there people really started to get to know me as a personality and the feedback was to say the least, entertaining. What made me branch out to my own podcast was when people enjoyed my rants on the group podcast and wanted me to do more sessions, the guys didn’t really see a fit of it on the show and I decided it would be better to have my own segments on my own channel that way whoever didn’t like it well… you know the rest.
After I began my journey with Sorry If I Offend You the podcast, the love was heartwarming, and the hate fueled me even more– to talk about all the topics people try to avoid like ‘sex on the first date’ or fake friends, boundaries and you being your own downfall.
My podcast does not fit in a box, it is open to any and all topics; opinions too.
The pod has taken on a life of its own now with merchandise growing and live shows coming to fruition, this brand is so much more than a regular audio show. I am so proud of this company and where is going, people really seem to love the unapologetic nature of the clothing, to see strangers on the street/ social media wearing my brand but not knowing I made it just does something to me, it is the best feeling ever. I want to be somebody everyone remembers as the girl who always stood true to herself and her opinions whether they were accepted or not.
I want to be the voice for those who want to speak their minds but their mouths just can’t say it.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is that you are acknowledged and loved for truly being yourself. As a creative, I face peoples opinions of me and my brand every day, the criticism but the love, that is probably the most shocking part because it’s so crazy to discover your impact on others lives by just putting yourself out there.

Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
NFT’s are cool, it is virtual art that will never tarnish. It still confuses me a bit how to purchase, create or be a part of the cryptocurrency world but I would love to have an NFT for SIIOY one of these days. The coolest part about NFT’s is that you can put them on any canvas, anywhere and they don’t just have to be a still image– like I seen a jeweler put one on a necklace and that was out of this world to me.
