We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful NiyeNinu White. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with NiyeNinu below.
NiyeNinu, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
At the age of 3 I told my mother that I was going to accomplish 3 things. 1. Marry me a European man, 2. Become a Doctor, & 3. Be a millionaire. Now, I don’t remember saying any of these things. Completely clueless in my adult life till one day I was having a conversation with my mother about my college career choices. She reminded me of my list of 3 things I wanted to accomplish. I was so shocked! Hindsight 20/20, not even sure where the first one on the list came from! Lol, I was 3 at the time, but it sure did come true. I was currently married to a Canadian man whose lineage was definitely of European background (but that didn’t last too long). However, that second item on the list; becoming a Doctor, really hit hard. At the time of our conversation, I had a masters in taxation and was not really enjoying my career. I felt empty. It was a sign to change careers! I knew I couldn’t just go apply to jobs in the medical field with no credentials, so I changed to a career that I knew I had innate experience in: Teaching. I became an elementary teacher to help with my transition while I kept running into various holistic practices and learning more and more about the alternative Health and Wellness industry. It was not a smooth transition but that conversation with my mother was a defining moment that help bring direction to my career and where I am now. I’m currently back in school to become a Naturopathic Doctor! Eventually I’ll be well on my way to accomplishing the third item on the list: becoming a millionaire!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
In 2009, I injured myself working out. I had what they call, frozen shoulder. I couldn’t even lift a 1 pound dumbbell, that’s how bad my injury was. For two years, I sought out traditional medical assistance to no avail. After two back to back MRI’s and the doctors telling me that nothing is wrong with me —only to prescribe me Ibuprofen for my shoulder pain— I finally decided to give the holistic world a try. I searched the internet for sports therapists and came across Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST). I did extensive research on FST and decided to find and work with one for the next 12 months. Within those 12 months, my shoulders began to heal and my range of motion increased. I found joy in dancing again and a love for the method of healing I was receiving. I referred so many people to that therapists that she suggested that I get certified, myself. Not long after my healing I became a certified Fascial Stretch Therapist in 2013. This methodology of healing was the catalyst to becoming the healer I am today.
My work started off with Total Body Corrective Therapy which includes: a series of reiki healing energy, fascial manipulation, assisted stretching, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF), muscle testing, and pressure point therapies. I then moved on to focus on Reiki Healing Therapy and Acupressure as I further understood the energetic connection to physical injuries. According to Eastern Medicines, blockage of the normal flow of vital life energy within the meridian lines of the body is what causes physical pain. Everything starts at the energetic level of our beings.
I then added the knowledge of a handful of herbs that she currently works with to create 100% Organic Reiki Healing Topical Herbal Oils to address pain and stress within the body & sleepless nights. Herbs are an excellent way to energetically heal the body and receive physical outcomes.
My Reiki Herbal Topical Herbal Oils are offered in 3 different blends: No Pain, Stress Less, & Dream Recovery. The herbal formula in the No Pain Oil helps to alleviate inflammation, pain, tension, and more within the body. The herbal formula in the Stress Less Oil assists with reducing stress internally at the cellular level and externally via aromatherapy. The herbal formula in the Dream Recovery Oil aids the body in bringing balance to and recovering one’s dreams, while providing a good night’s rest (for those that need it). You might be asking, NiyeNinu; what are Reiki Healing Topical Herbal Oils? Well, I realized that most oils are a mixture of various oils and then scented with essential oils, my oils all have a single base oil of Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) from a local Olive Mill in Queen Creek, AZ. I then infuse my blend of dried herbs into the oil using low heat infusion and then scent with essential oils that add to the benefits already provided by the organic dried herbs. Once the oils are complete, I infuse Reiki Healing Symbols into the oils so that everyone who purchases will receive long distance Reiki while using their products. No secrets here! Just love and healing energy to all!
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the major lessons I had to unlearn was subconscious self hatred. Growing up in the 1990s and early 2000s as a black child in a Caribbean household, I was raised as a first generation American. There were extreme levels of high expectations in the home and then subliminal messages in society that made me to believe I’ll never be able to meet those expectations due to my skin color. It was an interesting dichotomy I was experiencing. I was also hyper-vigilant due to my extreme empathic nature, so I always thought I was doing something wrong. All these pieces in play, made me feel like I was not good enough and have low expectations of myself; therefore: subconscious self-hatred. It wasn’t until 2016 (my late 20s) that I realized I wasn’t loving myself as I should. That year was revolutionary in my mindset shift. I began my journey of Self-Love and then a year later I was co-authoring a book called Open Your G.I.F.T.S. Vol II with Kim Coles from Living Color. I began honoring myself in a manner that inspired others around me to either do the same or to part ways with me. My circle of friends began to elevate, the healing work I engaged in had more meaning as I was applying it to my life and sharing my experiences with others. 7 years later on this journey and I’m still learning the depths of self love. My capacity to hold space for and love on others continues to grow as my love from myself grows. It’s so true when they say, “You can only love others to the capacity you love yourself.” I got a lot of growing in self-love to do if I want to live up to my spiritual name: NiyeNinu (which means, “She who has the world within her”). If I have the world in me and my capacity is to love them like I love me, then there is no way I can walk around not loving myself. I am looking forward to this continued journey of self-love and living up to my name.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I essentially started my business in 2013 but made it an official business in 2016. Here I am 10 whole years later and I still feel like I’m in the start up phases. Watching other businesses that started either the same time as me or after me, take off and flourish while I continue to, what feels like to me, flop around like a fish out of water; sometimes lower my spirits. Ultimately, I don’t intend to give up, although I have taken breaks. Bottom line, this past year of business helped me to recognize how much growth has happened within me and the connection to my individual walk with the success of my business. For me those two are intertwined. The more I better myself and grow my character the more prosperous my business becomes. Finally accepting this intermingled of my character and business success, I feel like the resilience, persistency, and determination is starting to pay off.
