We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Niya Thomas. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Niya below.
Alright, Niya thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Glims of Tranquility was actually my saving grace from God. I was on a path of darkness, searching for my light; something to bring positivity and joy. On that search I found the elements “passion & peace”. Passion: ”A strong and barely controllable emotion”, peace: “Freedom of disturbance, tranquility”. I combined the two and it led me the brightest flame I’ve ever seen… Homemade aromatherapy candles made with passion & peace! I literally feel tranquility while making candles, and candle making quickly became one of my biggest passions!

Niya , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi! My name is Niya, and I’ve been making candles for 3 years now! I got into candle making because I was looking for a positive outlet, an outlet that’d bring a sense of peace while engaging. Aromatherapy is our main focus, but we also offer a few fun sweet aromas! In addition, not only do we supply candles, but we also supply squeezable wax melts! One thing I’m most proud of is how intentional I was with coming up with this beautiful idea, and I hope my customers can feel a sense of peace in their atmosphere as the aroma fill their space(s)!

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Honestly, candle making requires you to always be resilient. Candle making is all about testing, trials and errors, and failed attempts until it’s perfect. Just about everything about candle making requires a series a testing, from testing new vessels to testing new scents. As a candle creator I’m always going back to the drawing board, so that within itself requires a lot of resilience, perseverance, determination, and most of all patience!

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One lesson I had to unlearn was “candle making would be easy”. It’s quite literally the opposite lol. I explained in my previous answer the resilience required to be a candle maker, and that brief explanation itself shows the complicity involved. Making candles has alottt of science to it believe it or not.
