We were lucky to catch up with Nitrah Neon recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Nitrah thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I learned how to sew from my grandmother! She is a wedding dress designer from Thailand. She also used to have a school where she taught girls how to sew, so I had the best teacher. Knowing what I do now I wish I spent more time sewing when I had free time because it is a hard skill to learn and it takes a lot of time and practice to get good at it. It is hard to overcome burnout when you’re not feeling like creating something that was challenging to get over.
I learned how to record music from watching other people around me do it and YouTube! Knowing what I do now I wish I spent more time learning the production side of things which I’m currently working on now.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
For those who do not know I currently have a scene streetwear brand called Fallen Idol. We currently have hoodies and crop tops available and are looking forward to expanding. There isn’t a whole lot of scene/emo clothing brands out there anymore so I wanted to fill that gap!
I also am a rapper/dj and I have a show coming up with SpeakerFreqs in Vegas on august 8th! I’m working on a side project called Cokettish with my friend Korra Rain and we are wrapping up our first album right now so that is super exciting! I’m also working on some singles that will be dropping in the next few months.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I think the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is being able to collab with other artists! It’s definitely one of my favorite things to do in all mediums!

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
I think that venues should be more accessible to creatives! I feel like every time I try to book a venue they’re always asking for so much money and not providing anything more than a space. Lots of smaller venues have been closing down recently where I’m from so I would say go support your local scene!
