Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nita Mistry. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Nita, appreciate you joining us today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
I am the happiest when I am doing something creative. Several years ago, I took a year out of acting and worked in an environment that was not in the creative field. It was a reasonably well-paid job, which allowed me to cover all my outgoings and save a little. But I wasn’t truly happy. When you know you have a passion and desire that matches the gift you were born with, I believe that is what you are designed to do. So, getting back to honing that skill most definitely makes me feel fulfilled.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I started acting at the age of 9 in school plays, but it wasn’t until my early 20s that I went to drama school and pursued my career as an actor professionally. I started on stage in London before booking a movie, more stage plays, and several independent films before moving to Los Angeles in 2017.
My most recent television bookings since moving to Los Angeles include General Hospital (ABC), Ordinary Joe (NBC), NCIS (CBS), and Echoes on Netflix. And this year, during the SAG strike, I took the opportunity to start writing and filming a web series. It’s my first project under my new production company, 2 Twenty Six Productions. The title of the web series is “From Buckingham Palace,” which is a proof of concept for an episodic comedy. As well as writing the entire series, I am solely producing and acting in it, so it’s been full-on but incredibly fulfilling.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I am an avid podcast listener. I listen to many writers, actors, producers, directors, and showrunners. Alongside this, I also listen to many mental health and conversational podcasts on a wide range of subjects. Books are a huge part of my life, too. I have a good selection of biographies, plays, novels, etc.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
To be able to tell stories that are meaningful and impactful is what drives me. Getting to act and play is a joy, but the fulfillment comes from being able to touch the audience through portrayal. Whether It makes them laugh or cry, it’s all about connection. I love this aspect, and that art can be something greater than ourselves. With this being said, I am currently filming a web series, which is a comedy that I am producing, starring in, and writing. I hope it will make people laugh.
