We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nita Hadden. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nita below.
Hi Nita, thanks for joining us today. We love heartwarming stories – do you have a heartwarming story from your career to share?
Kids are amazing little humans, they are innocent and beautiful, untouched by years of fear and experience and they absorb everything they learn. Teaching kids how to calm their minds, let go of their thoughts and bring peace, love and kindness into their world is truly a gift. They are reaping the benefits everyday as they grow into older children, adolescents and into adulthood. A defining moment I recall is when I received a video of the sweetest little boy named Hayes who was practicing his bumble bee breath at home. He had facetimed his grandparents and was demonstrating this unique breath that produces a bee-like buzzing sound that can help relieve stress and anger. When you’re a tiny ant amongst a sea of ants trying to climb up the top of the hill, it can be overwhelming and discouraging but i’m here to tell you that the little stories of encouragement warm my heart and push me to keep going because one day those small stories are going to be the big ones.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hello, I’m Nita, I’m the sole owner of Sanskara Yoga, a small yoga business serving children, parents and families. Above everything else, I am a mother of three beautiful children and they are my teachers everyday. After leaving corporate America and staying home for 6 years with my kids, I realized I needed something more for myself and started practicing yoga more. At that time, it was more about increasing flexibility, gaining strength and reducing stress but as time went by something shifted. The more I practiced, the more grounded I felt and my mind that usually racing in multiple directions was suddenly at peace. Yoga, Meditation and connecting breath to movement in a mindful way allows for complete synchronicity. I teach the practice of yoga, meditation and pranayama or breath regulation (translated to life force (prana) and control (yama) to adults and children. The yoga I teach isn’t about achieving the perfect fancy inversion that is most often portrayed on social media. I may not be the right teacher for everyone but my hope is you find the perfect teacher for you. My teachings come solely from my personal practice, books I’ve read and inspiration from my teachers. I have taught at gyms, neighbors homes, senior recreation centers and preschools and I absolutely love practicing and teaching outside in nature. Sanskar is the process of increasing the potential in ourselves and the values instilled in us by our parents and loved ones. My brand speaks to mothers in that sweet but tough season of motherhood and to children of all ages in hopes that yoga in some way can enhance, bring peace and improve their quality of life.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Hands down, the most effective strategy for growing my client list is word of mouth. Yes, I know in this high tech world of algorithms, seo, social media and constant ads thrown at us, it would seem like this can’t be the way to market yourself but referrals are really the best. Although I’m a very small business, past and current clients telling their family, friends and communities has definitely been my number one. Not being afraid to talk about what you do and why is also extremely effective and always having a business card and.or flyers to hand out is key.
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
I love what I do and wouldn’t envision a life not teaching yoga but I would also consider becoming a vegan nutritional coach or specialize in Ayurveda because wellness and longevity make my heart and cup so full. I always say, I wish I found yoga earlier in life because if I knew then what I know now, I probably wouldn’t have ever entered the corporate world. It’s well known that yoga teachers and wellness professionals usually don’t enter the field for the money but rather because something or someone guided them down this path. Helping others with mental and breath awareness, stress, anxiety, quality of life, strength, flexibility and balance, just to name a few will always drive me to continue this journey.
