We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nisprih Mohan-Ram a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Nisprih , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
Entrepreneurship is fun. No matter how I started, that’s the reason I stick with it. I chase the fun and I follow it wherever it takes me, spreadsheets and to-do lists in tow.
My love affair with digital marketing began long before I even knew what to call it. I found myself drawn to the art of persuasion – most often online with compelling social media posts and email campaigns. My parents’ real estate ventures became my sandbox, a testing ground for my budding marketing skillset. Little did I know that these early experiments would lay the foundation for my future hustle.
As I honed my skills and expanded my clientele, I discovered that the world of digital marketing was like a choose-your-own-adventure book – full of exciting possibilities and unexpected plot twists – from guiding a healthcare startup through the treacherous waters of branding to helping established businesses navigate the ever-changing seas of digital presence.
In 2022, I left the tech world to pursue being my own boss. My first priority was creating a financial plan that would enable me to grow and build success despite inconsistent cash flows. I spent hours assessing what I already had and what I would need more of to make it all work. After that, I focused on illustrating my strengths for other brands I wanted to work with. I’ve learned that once you know your *why*, being specific about *who* you want to work with and *what* you want to work on will get you the farthest. From there, with grit and a little creativity, your *how* begins to unfold almost naturally.
And just like that, my side hustle transformed into a full-fledged business, complete with its own set of challenges and triumphs.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
After studying marketing in university and diving headfirst into roles in tech, I realized I had found my calling – a blend of creativity, strategy, and a dash of glamour. I revelled in the creative aspects of building visual assets, the stimulating appeal of copywriting, and the operational mastery that came with managing a team. My love for all things visual media was undeniable, and I knew that working with clients who needed that discipline would be my sweet spot.
At Hyperion Consulting, we’re not just another digital marketing firm – we’re more like fairy godmothers for brands, waving our magic wands (okay, keyboards) to transform pumpkins into carriages. Our secret sauce? A dash of expert knowledge, a sprinkle of emerging tools, and a heaping tablespoon of personalized customer service.
Our most popular packages are like the must-have items in your wardrobe – essential and transformative. We work with business owners to craft compelling brand stories, drive email marketing, manage social media, and curate user-generated content. It’s a bit like being a stylist, but for brands – making sure they look fabulous and feel confident in the digital world. We also know that our clients’ success lies in our team’s understanding of their goals and how they work. We tailor our approach for every relationship, ensuring clients pay for only what they need and never have to worry about things like progress updates or pivoting strategy as we scale up. As an owner of other businesses myself, I’ve experienced my fair share of ineffective freelancers and lackluster agencies. The last thing we want to do at Hyperion Consulting is create the same headaches for other entrepreneurs who already have too much on their plate.
And let’s be honest, in a world where attention spans are shorter than a New York minute, our ability to make clients’ content shine brighter than a Times Square billboard is nothing short of miraculous. It’s not just about the numbers (though our 30-day growth stats are pretty swoon-worthy) – it’s about creating a digital presence that’s addictive. Our social media content has been applauded and reshared by big names like Molson Coors, and we regularly catch the eye of large local community accounts eager to collaborate with our clients. I love that we can guarantee results based on data-driven insights and have a blast doing it. Our client roster has become like an extended family, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
When I first began, as I pondered the rollercoaster ride of entrepreneurship, I couldn’t help but wonder: Is the pursuit of financial success really the key to happiness, or are we all just running on a never-ending treadmill of expectations?
It was a question that would make even the most seasoned business owner pause. After all, in a city where success is often measured by the size of your bank account and the square footage of your house, it’s easy to get caught up in the rat race. But as I reflected on my journey from corporate girlie to self-employed consultant, I realized that maybe, just maybe, we’ve been looking at success all wrong.
I decided to try on a different perspective. What if, instead of obsessing over our bank balances, we measured success by the quality of our sleep, the frequency of our laughter, or the warmth of our relationships? It was a radical idea – but somehow, it felt right.
So, I channeled my inner Tim Ferriss and started asking myself the tough questions. What were my true markers of success? How much control did I really have over these outcomes? Could I find flow in my work, or was I just spinning my wheels?
As I delved deeper into this self-examination, I realized that I had been treating my financial goals like an all-you-can-eat buffet – always reaching for more, never satisfied with what was already on my plate. It was time to set some boundaries. I made a commitment to celebrate the small victories – paying off a credit card balance became as worthy of a toast as landing a big client. And I started to view money not as the end goal, but as a tool to craft the life I truly wanted – a life that would make both my 8-year-old self and my future 80-year-old self proud.
In the end, I discovered that redefining success is a lot like finding the perfect pair of jeans – it requires patience, self-reflection, and a willingness to try on different styles until you find the one that fits just right.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Besides the famous titles like 4-Hour Workweek by Tim Ferris, I tend to seek out resources that are adjacent to entrepreneurialism. I like to explore titles that delve into psychology, physical and mental health, and building a community.
