Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nisha Brown. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Nisha , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Our mission at La Belle Hair Company is to help women regain their confidence when it comes to their natural hair. We believe that a woman’s hair is a point of pride and there is a story behind each hair texture.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hello everyone, my name is Nisha and I am the owner and instructor at La Belle Hair Company, We originally started out as a hair extension company back in 2016 and evolved into offering hair care products along with hair services. I am also a licensed cosmetologist whom specializes in natural hair care and luxury extensions (Tape-Ins, I-Tips, K-Tips, and Volume Wefts). I’ve always had a love for the beauty industry since a young girl and the passion really set in once my grandmother passed away, She came to me in a dream one night and from there, the company was created. La Belle is French for the the feminine version “The Beautiful” so in English the name is “The Beautiful Hair Company”. I began to notice the disconnect that one would have when it comes to the education behind natural hair as well as the pride one should have when wearing extensions. The purpose is to enhance the beauty you already have internally as well as externally. Many of my clients come to me due to hair challenges such as hair loss, hair breakage, hair damage, etc. Overall, my clientele embarks on a healthy hair journey not only gaining education on their hair but education on their body and mental state as well. I am most proud of being able to provide services and products to assist my clients with overcoming their hair challenges and being able to experience a healthy hair journey. What sets the brand apart from others is the ability we have to ensure that our clientele comes first and them knowing that they have a voice and we are listening, The way we set ourselves apart is by creating the La Belle Experience. The purpose of the experience is to bring back the luxury of hair care in the salon as well as outside of the salon. The number one goal which we achieve through all clientele is what we call “The Rebirth”. The rebirth is a transition that begins as soon as the client walks through the door. The process includes revitalization and rejuvenation. Ultimately, each client leaves a new person; more confident and more motivated than when they arrived.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Trying to navigate social media when being a business owner can be challenging especially if you are an introvert. Starting out, I didn’t want to be the face of my brand. I didn’t want anyone to know that I was the owner, I didn’t want to show my face, all I wanted to do was post the products. I found out the hard way that social media isn’t always about posting, you need a method behind posting. If you don’t have the capital to purchase inventory and make someone else the face of your business, then it will be hard for you to show up on the platform and gain clientele. People love a story and also seeing a face. You have to show something that people can relate to. People spend money off of emotions. Once I started showing up on social media, my presence became known and I started to gain an audience. My method is education because I take pride in educating. It comes to me naturally so people know that I’m not being fake or forced once I start to educate,
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
It took me a long time to figure out exactly what I was going to do to really set myself apart from anyone else in the industry. My company started in 2016/2017 and my light bulb didn’t fully go off until 2019/2020. Throughout the years, I navigated the business through trial and error. I studied other businesses and hairstylists around me to see what they offered and did not offer. Once I figured out what it was that people wanted, (The La Belle Experience), I took off and continued with the strategy.
