Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nirvana Crystal. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Nirvana, thanks for joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
To be able to share my art with others and have people connect together through creative expression and community is my vision for art. Some meaningful projects I have created are live community paints and paint and sip celebrations. The live community paint was held at The Eastburgh Arts and Music Festival in East Liberty, a part of Pittsburgh. As people enjoyed music, food, vendors, they also had the opportunity to add their love and creativity to the project. Seeing and feeling people come together, connecting with their inner child and radiate joy through the creative process is indescribable. I was honored to have experienced it with them.
Paint and Sip Celebrations celebrate life, love, art and connection. The classes bring communities together at various venues and sparks up their creative spirit from a blank canvas to a masterpiece of their own. Most people haven’t touched a paint brush since they were a child, which adds to the excitement of the finished painting. I truly love offering these classes to help others connect with fun. Life is meant to be fun, creative, full of expression, connection and vibrancy. Any way that I can create that for others, I will continue to do so!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am an artist that specializes in paintings, murals and paint and sip celebrations. I love that I have a gift for bringing people together through creative expression, especially painting. My vision is to bring communities and people together through art, while connecting with their inner spirit. My art style radiates love and joy. It’s a flowy mix of street art, acrylic and aerosol, with soft and vibrant colors. I love mixing in playful energy that uplifts any space that it encompasses. Co-collaborating with others to bring an artistic vision to life is a beautiful way to bring more love to the planet.
Paint and sip celebrations connect people in the class to their inner spirit. They start with a blank canvas and are guided through a painting while adding their own creative spark to it. The paintings turn out fabulous and the joy radiates from people that have had a fun and connecting experience.
Life is meant to be fun, full of joy, play, connection and love. Art brings us all back to freedom, fun, creative energy and the connectedness we feel as children. Guiding people to re-connect with that feeling is what my business does.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the ability to encourage, inspire and show others that they, too, can do anything that they desire. The freedom to create without hesitation and embodying my passion is such a gift. I love being able to guide people through paintings, encourage their own artistic expression and re-connect them with their creative energy that we all have within.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn mostly everything I ever knew about “how to live.” I grew up in a small town where there is not much opportunity to expand. I consistently felt called to follow my heart and at times, I would, but then fall back to what I was programmed to live. I finally found the courage to move into a city that I love, create my art business and live life the way that I had always dreamed. It’s brought me remarkable opportunities, new connections, more inspiration, and continues to expand my life in ways that I only imagined. I would say to anyone that feels like they desire more, follow that calling, it will take you places that you never knew existed!
