We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nirva Tervil. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nirva below.
Alright, Nirva thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you scale up? What were the strategies, tactics, meaningful moments, twists/turns, obstacles, mistakes along the way? We’d love to hear the backstory the illustrates how you grew your brand.
The Entrepreneur journey is one that is constantly growing, and changing. The success of a brand to many others can be viewed as something easy, but nothing about this journey is easy. Yes, there are great days where all I want to do is work because the creativity juice is flowing unconditionally and there are other time where the most I want to do is climb into bed and sleep the whole day. When I first started my business I was 16 years old in high school, and to be honest I knew little to nothing about the field I am currently in. I always had a passion for the arts: music, dance, and sketching; so why not add digital design to the list. For most people that know quality designs require quality equipment and every designer I followed or knew had back then had Macs and apple products for designing. The most I had was my iPhone, and that is exactly where my journey began. Yes, on my phone using apps like Pinterest, Canva, and Pics art to design because I couldn’t afford a creative cloud subscription let alone an apple MacBook. I made my first $500 from working off my phone and let me tell you it was the best day of my life. By the time, I was around my first $1,200, I purchased my first MacBook leaving me too little to no money. And I know it’s crazy, but the one of the twist and turns of entrepreneurship. You have to invest in yourself before anyone can invest or see the quality in you. That MacBook now is still in use and had generated me my first $50,000. Looking back at it now I’m glad I took the leap of faith in myself and not only knew I could do better but also allowing myself to be and do better. When I first decided to begin freelancing, there was literally no clients my way. I spent most of my days in people DMs asking to complete free work for little to no rate just for the practice and exposure; this lasted for months before I receive my first official client. This was one of the strategies that landed me my first known client who is now a regular. I remember the day like it was yesterday because that day I would say, was one of my big breaks. I had a friend of mine from high school who had already had a pretty successful business and she knew some people here or there. She reached out to me one day, letting me know that someone was looking for a designer and little did I know that one client would create a chain of clients for me up until this day. Even though I have had some successes, there were time where I made many mistakes. Like any business owner there will be mistakes made and that is where you take the opportunity to learn from it; budgeting and proper legal representation for my brand being one. There were time where I didn’t budget and spent thousands on unnecessary things that I didn’t even wear or ate. Now looking at it, budgeting mattered more than most things people think would mater. Not everyday is sunshine and rainbow and sales go up some weeks and others falls to the lowest of lows. However, I used that as your drive, and motivation; asking myself what did I do last week that I could incorporate in this week, learning and building relationships with my clients and target audience because these thing matter. When a client or customer can see your authentic side they trust you more which provides you with a long lasting client. Even though, there is so much more to learn, mistakes to make, obstacles to overturn I’m proud of where I came from and where I am now and you know the term “I wouldn’t change anything”; well believe it or not but every part of my journey molded me for the proud owner of Exotic Creations Branding Agency I am today.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Nirva Tervil, I am 20 years old and the proud owner of Exotic Creations Branding Agency. Growing up I was always the sibling yo be into the arts, from dancing, singing, playing instruments, and sketching. Digital Design was something I always found intriguing but knew little to nothing about it. Even though arts was always a big passion of mine never in a millions did I think it would be one of my career field, and let alone generate so many income which has helped so many people not just my family. When I was young I wanted to be a teacher more than anything because I love helping others, now I kind of shifted away from that and is pursuing my two passions: helping others and the arts, in two different career fields: a freelance designer and a Pediatrician.
I specialize in digital marketing, and branding. Some services includes, motion work, website development, digital flyer creations, course and class creations, and digital marketing works like billboards, PR box creations, and Curated Content creation. One of my most amazing accomplishments is the change I bring to my clients lives and seeing their visions and or goals come to life. Many business owners have goals and aspirations for their brands and having the proper guidance and branding can help a lot. This is where I step in, helping my client organize their brand’s visuals in a way that will not only attract and target their audience but also generate income. One of the things that keeps me going everyday is my clients, seeing their business grow, and how far they have come and knowing I contributed my gift towards that, says it all. I would like my potential clients, followers, and fans to know that, yes starting a business takes work but you don’t have to have everything figured out to begin, take a leap of faith in yourself and believe that you can be that bright light of change in any field, all you need is the proper branding & marketing.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My particular goal or mission driving my creative journey are to start a non-profit organization to give back to my high school, neighborhood, and people in need. I also want to reach financial freedom where I’m able to buy my parents their first home an a build generational wealth.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Some resources I wished I knew much earlier in my creative journey are the proper legal actions to take for freelance workers as well as filling taxes. Most people always want to automatically become an LLC owner but its okay as a freelancer to start with a Sole Corp. and work your way up. Also understanding that, you don’t need to have all fancy equipment to start, begin with what you have and grow.
