Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nirjary Desai. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Nirjary, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think it takes to be successful?
The number one thing I tell people is don’t compare yourself to someone else and their path because you don’t know their journey and it may not be the right one for you. No one is you and that is your power; to be uniquely you and create your own journey. Every human being has a dream and a vision of how they want to script their life and it can only come true if you write your own story and stay true to yourself!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am the Chief Experience Officer and Founder of KIS (cubed) Events, specializing in one of a kind event experiences with serious wow factor for some of the top brands, celebrities and personalities across the US and globally. I believe that every moment is unique, the experiences should be memorable, and when you walk into a space, your style should stand out and be unforgettable. I was born in Zambia, raised in South Carolina and educated in London, so I have a poly-cultural upbringing which instilled a passion for global travel, socially conscious businesses, and inclusive community building. My life has always been a battle between my eastern culture versus my western lifestyle. Those experiences make me want to advocate for a more socially inclusive world. I earned my MBA in International Marketing & Management in London and worked within the hospitality and travel sector with American Airlines, IHG Hotels, and Starwood Hotels & Resort. I went on to found several brands and businesses designed to serve the travel and hospitality industry including a S3 Catering, Glam Squad, Bridal Elements, KIS (cubed) Events, and Leave Her Mark, a conference series to help educate, elevate and inspire women to find their passion and achieve their goals. I am also a culinary expert, focusing on anything global in flare but nostalgic in flavor. I love teaching others that Indian food, or any food for that matter, is not complicated. I donate time to combating childhood hunger by partnering with Share Our Strength No Kid Hungry, and dedicate my time to fundraising, community education, and meal packing. I also work with women nationally and internationally and devotes some of my free time to community building and mentorship. Ultimately, I want to ensure that all human beings have access to opportunities and a community that truly understands them. And I believe each one of us has the power to influence the world around us by creating our version of change.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Having satisfied clients is a huge testament that you are providing a high level of customer service. But what I strive to always achieve are three things. Communication and Follow up – it is so important to follow up with a new lead or client within 24-48 hours, the customer should feel like a priority and never neglected. Listen and don’t judge – it is the most important thing you can do when planning and designing their day. They have a style, but it’s our job to pull things together even if our style does not match theirs. You have to give them honest suggestions and not be judgmental. Last but not least is transparency and setting the right expectations – it is so important to set the expectations on everything such as cost, fees, your time commitment to their project, and what they can expect the day of. Only you can set the expectations right so that you can be the person that under promises and over delivers!
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
By treating each event like it’s your first or last event; it keeps you on your toes creative business-wise and forces you to stay on top of your game. It’s important that you as a vendor stay on top of it as it’s your only chance and the biggest client of your dreams. This has allowed us to create stunning, one of a kind events for each client. I say that because you never know who is watching at an event and most of my future business comes from a client that attended another event and was blown away by the attention to detail and uniqueness.
