We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nina Villalvazo. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nina below.
Nina, appreciate you joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Success is a complex term, and what defines it can vary drastically from person to person. Generally, success takes dedication, especially in the entrepreneurial world. Running a profitable business involves a lot of hard work, long hours, and, many times, working during weekends. The romanticized notion of entrepreneurship pays no serious attention to how much work is required to become successful.
When I was starting my journey as a blogger and influencer, it was all about my passion for content creation.
I remember so many sleepless nights when I self-taught Photoshop and Final Cut Pro. There was one particular night, however, when I was working on a brand collaboration, and on that project, I had a myriad of technical problems, yet I persevered because I wanted to deliver quality content. That collaboration served as a really huge turning point and opened so many doors toward more opportunities and partnerships.
My husband recently shared a metaphor for success with me: it’s like planting a tree. You start with a seed, which represents your initial idea or passion. You then need to water it consistently, representing your dedication and hard work. There are days when the growth seems slow or even stagnant, much like how progress can feel in business. But with perseverance, the tree eventually grows, providing shade and fruit – symbolizing the rewards of your labor.
To achieve success, adaptability and flexibility are crucial. Staying updated with industry changes, analyzing the market, and being open to new strategies are vital. Just as a tree bends with the wind to avoid breaking, being flexible allows your business to weather the storms of market fluctuations and evolving trends.
Nina, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hello! I’m Nina Villalvazo, the mastermind behind The Social Wisdom and my blog/Instagram German Blondy. I kicked off my journey as a blogger and influencer, which evolved into a full-blown business helping others shine online. From beverages to skincare, gaming to movies, I’ve marketed for a plethora of industries. My stint as a CMO for a law firm sharpened my skills in marketing channels and strategies, giving me a panoramic view of consumer behavior and content tactics.

I offer social media strategy, paid media, and overall marketing strategy services. Plus, I provide free educational resources through my blog, podcast, and YouTube channel. How do you keep your team’s morale high?
I’ve managed teams of all sizes across various companies, and as a CMO, I work closely with managers and senior team members while ensuring I stay connected with the team doing the heavy lifting. Setting clear goals and rewarding teams when they achieve these goals is a great way to boost morale and team spirit. Listening to what your employees want is crucial for maintaining happiness and morale. Regular check-ins, whether quarterly in person or through automated employee pulse checks, are invaluable for gathering feedback on their engagement, satisfaction, and overall well-being.
Pulse checks provide regular insights and help assess the team’s mood. Employees often have different motivations than business leaders assume, such as preferring an additional paid day off or a Christmas bonus over a yearly holiday party. Another key to maintaining morale is transparency. While it’s not necessary to share everything, communicating directional changes, relocations, overall yearly goals, and shifts in personnel professionally can prevent instilling fear and uncertainty among workers.
The keys to successful team management and morale-boosting are clear goal setting, listening to employee needs, regular feedback, and transparent communication.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Building my audience on social media was a journey of networking, authenticity, and strategic consistency. I started by connecting with other users within my industry, attending events, and socializing with people, which turned into valuable connections. Being genuine online and striving to build personal connections played a significant role.
I began as a blogger and influencer, sharing authentic experiences and insights that resonated with my audience. Engaging content and regular interactions were key. Collaborations with brands and attending events helped expand my reach and establish credibility. Each step was about providing value, whether through informative posts, engaging stories, or relatable content.
My advice for everyone starting out:
Consistency:
Stay consistent with your posting. Regularly showing up online is crucial for building your presence. It’s not just about frequent posts but maintaining a steady rhythm that your audience can rely on.
Volume:
Quantity is important. While maintaining quality, remember that platforms like TikTok thrive on frequent content. Aim to post at least once a day to keep your audience engaged and attract new followers.
Understanding Each Channel:
Each social media platform has its own culture and audience behavior. Spend time on each platform, consuming content to understand what works. When I am talking about consuming content, I am referring to spending at least an hour a day on a platform. This will give you insights into editing styles, trending topics, and effective communication methods.
Focus on One Channel First:
It’s tempting to be everywhere at once, but as a solopreneur or someone just starting, it’s challenging to manage multiple platforms effectively. Start with one platform, master it, and then expand to others. This approach ensures you build a strong, focused presence before diversifying.
Authenticity and Engagement:
Be authentic. Share your true self and engage genuinely with your audience. Respond to comments, ask questions, and create a community feel. Personal connections can turn casual followers into loyal fans.
Growing a social media presence takes time and patience. Stay dedicated, keep learning, and adapt your strategies based on what you observe. Your authentic voice and consistent efforts will eventually pay off.
