Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nina The Emcee. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Nina The Emcee, thanks for joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
Learning the craft….
I am a professional event host, syndicated radio personality and certified wedding officiant. You’ll need an amazing personality for jobs of such, but what I find to be even more important than personality, is decorum and discernment. Over the years, with shadowing, tons of note taking and experience, I’ve learned that what is good for one crowd, may not be good for others. I can’t engage with my church audience, the same way I engage with an audience at a brunch or even a bridal show. My words, delivery, body language and demeanor have to be presented in a way that is easiest for that particular demographic to receive. With every event I emcee, I take all of these dynamic factors, wrap my personality around them, and deliver my very special gift from God.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am Nina the Emcee, professional event emcee, syndicated radio personality and certified wedding officiant. I attended the best HBCU in the land, Grambling State University. While attending, I was a member of multiple organizations, pledged Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and was crowned Miss Grambling State University. In 2012, graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication. Immediately after graduating, I began my career in radio and over time, my audience has grown drastically. I went from one radio show in 2012 to being syndicated and heard across the country in a matter of years.
In addition to being on the radio, I love talking to people and in front of crowds, it gives me great joy to be the source of someone’s laughter or smile. In 2013, I packed up my personality and decided to venture out. I began emceeing wedding receptions and eventually that grew to emceeing other events like award shows, red carpets, festivals and more. I’ve learned that my personality and professionalism make a huge impact in the events that I am booked for. I am an atmosphere changer, a vibe elevator, I shift energy, this is something that is felt by everyone in attendance.
I have emceed tons of events and enjoy them all but my specialty lies in wedding receptions. I engage with guest in attendance, use humor and whit to inform them on what it is going on, and make sure they party and have the time of their lives.
After doing receptions for so long, I took an interest in wedding officiating. That journey has been absolutely amazing. I incorporate my personality into that aspect as well. My ceremonies tend to be engaging and humorous. I never allow my couples to begin their marriage with a dull, monotone, “stick to the script” type of ceremony. It is important to make sure their big day reflects their vision and energy. I am the perfect wedding officiant for brides and grooms with BIG PERSONALITIES.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
It such a blessing to be a blessing. I have tons of fun while doing my job and sometimes in the midst of having fun or being focused on work, I don’t realize the impact that I am continuously making on people’s lives. When I put my energy, personality and everything I have into someone’s wedding or reception, those moments are remembered and appreciated for a lifetime. During events it is always my goal to make people laugh or smile, you just never know who could have been having a sad day or tough time.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Pay the price! Don’t try to negotiate rates, we all have bills and responsibilities in life, and for some, every dollar counts. Be mindful of that always.
