We recently connected with Nina Schulze and have shared our conversation below.
Nina, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you walk us through some of the key steps that allowed you move beyond an idea and actually launch?
My writing career actually started with a past life regression. I had a client at the time through my old business who wanted me to learn how to facilitate past life regressions. As I had never had one, I booked a session to see if it would be anything I would be interested in bringing to my business. I picked an intention that at that time seemed silly- wanting to find a connection with a person that I had never met, yet continuously haunted my dreams. My mind was blown!
Anyway, I spent months meditating and journaling to learn more about this past life story. I dipped into the Akashic Records to learn more and then sat on this for two years, just kind of basking in the knowledge of it all. Then, in the summer of 2024, as my family was preparing to move, that the Universe was like, ‘it’s time to tell that story.’
I spent hours writing. I’d wake up and write and next thing I would know it was two in the morning. I lost time- friends suggested that I was automatically writing- I can neither confirm or deny that’s what really happened, but while writing past life story down I certainly felt like I was in a trance. Once the story was written, I just let it sit. I didn’t really know what to do with it. Should I publish it on KDP? Was writing it down the main purpose? And then I was guided to share it…and people LOVED it.
This small aspect helped me to gain the courage to actually publish Rosalynn: A Past Life Romance on KDP.
It wasn’t until after my first book was written that I learned that I didn’t just share one past life with this person, but multiple. So then I published my second book Rosalynn: I Have Loved You Before- a prequel.
But then came the challenge of wrapping up the series. How do I write something that was future focused? Would this be a manifestation of sorts? How would it go down? This story was my challenge because, with the past life stories, I already had the beginning, the middle, the end- the hardest parts were the parts in between. But the final chapter of the series? None of that has happened yet. But nevertheless, I was able to write it and Rosalynn: I Will Love You Forever was launched in April 2025!
And now…well, I’ve got tons of stories to tell. Right now more romance based, but I have some stories that aren’t that too!
Nina, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Nina Schulze and I’m a Colorado based Indie Author. I used to own a healing business in the Denver metro area where I performed bodywork and Reiki. I closed my physical business down in December of 2023, like many local businesses. I made some witchy bath bombs for the better part of 2024, to supplement some income until it was time to start my author journey.
Which has been wild, by the way. Almost as if everything that I’ve done in the last five years lead right up to this moment. Tapping into my inner child- as reading and writing were always my best subjects and I had been writing books since I was in elementary school (never released, just for fun).
When I started, I just planned on writing stories influenced from my own personal past life regressions- starting with the Rosalynn series, which is romance. And while I still have some romance up my sleeves (and not necessarily past life related), I do have other genres that interest me.
I think what I’m most proud of is really stepping out of my comfort zone and letting my work be seen. And when people read my books I want them to feel as though they are worthy of the love that is portrayed in my books.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is being able to let my imagination flow. I have always had an overactive imagination that I could easily get lost in. I’m a daydreamer. Being able to write allows me to live in this fantasy land, to create bold and beautiful scenarios and to really just enjoy my life so much more. Plus, when I hear how much by books resonate with others, if they love them, it warms my heart to know that I’ve touched theirs.
Can you share one of your favorite marketing or sales stories?
As an Indie Author, we certainly have to promote our own books.
A friend of mine had suggested an idea for a Tiktok video where I take a section of my story and make it look like it’s real life. So I took a picture of myself and wrote about a break up scene and how I had just received a movie deal (from Rosalynn: I Will Love You Forever). I had never had so many views or engagement. People were congratulating me, telling me my boyfriend was a jerk!
While the views and engagement were great, secretly, I felt really bad about it because they believed what I post to be true about myself. Even though I had even posted information in the caption about my book. Luckily, I had a classy way to respond back, thanking people for their support but letting them know that the scene was from my book and I’m glad that it felt real to them.
It was a bit of an eye opener at how well it worked. Kind of funny, but I won’t lie, I certainly felt a little guilty for pulling them in that way.
