We recently connected with Nina Obier and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Nina, thanks for joining us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
It was 13 years into my corporate career. My husband and I had recently bought a new home and a new van. We wanted a new neighborhood for our daughters to grow up in. They were 6 & 4 at the time. Both of our incomes were necessary to keep a roof over our head. Alongside my mom, wife, work, family member, friend duties I had taken on a hobby that I loved, scrapbooking. We were so happy with our decision to move. Our neighborhood was already producing new friendships and fun. 4 months after making the move, September 11, 2001, happened. I was shaken to my core. My husband worked in Federal Law Enforcement, and this would change his work patterns and travel. All I could think about were my kiddos. Who is raising them? Are they safe at afterschool? How many hours am I away from them as I traveled also. I was not the same after that day. The work I was doing was totally in my wheelhouse. I was very good at it and yet I felt empty. I made the tough decision, the crazy decision and yet the right decision to walk away from my well-paying, much needed income job to stay home with my kids and follow at the time my true hearts calling. To share scrapbooking and the power of preserving our stories for generations to come. I started my home-based business full time and I never looked back. I am happy to report we were able to stay in the house, keep our new van and have way more meaningful experiences with our daughters, family, friends, my clients. In the years to come I would reach a level of leadership that only 2% of consultants would achieve. I would earn 5 all-expenses paid vacations for my husband and I. My children would learn about what it takes to be an entrepreneur. They would learn how to communicate with adults as we welcomed them into our home weekly. Not to mention many of these clients would become lifelong friends.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am Nina Obier an author, speaker, and joy seeker. I have been married for 32 years to my husband whom I still like. We have two adult daughters and a dog. We moved from a big city in Florida to a small town in South Carolina at the beginning of the pandemic. For 10 months we lived in an apartment while we were building our forever home. For the record, I was not on board with this move in the beginning. As I said I like my husband and he was leaving so I thought I better join him. After 13 years in my home-based scrapbooking business, it was time for a change. In 2014 I launched Success Simplified. It was born from my days in corporate where I was a speaker & facilitator of personal development. As I started to put my trainings and talks out into the world many mentors were suggesting the importance of having a book. I never intended to be an author. As a matter of fact my first book was spoken. I was sharing my one-minute thoughts & ideas every week on social media. I had the idea to transcribe those videos and format the stories into a book. With the help of my older daughter and a few trusted friends I self-published “Listen.Learn.Love.Lead- 40 Simple Messages for an #inspiredlife.” in early 2015. In 2016, I followed in my mom’s footsteps and became certified as a John Maxwell Coach & Speaker. Then immediately after that she suggested we attend a powerful personal development course together. In October of 2016 my life and business changed. Immediately upon returning from that course I self-published my second book “My Daily Clarity- 90 Days to Connect, Create, Communicate & Celebrate.” Which I know is my life’s work to share. It is a system I was using with my coaching clients that I expanded into a self-paced workbook/journal. I am passionate about women operating with clarity, confidence, and commitment in their live & business spiritually, physically, mentally, and emotionally. As for being a joy seeker. In January of 2021 I was invited to join the audio only app Clubhouse. I went all in. Two weeks after being on the app I received a divine download to start a room called Cup of Joy- Coaches and Coffee. I have been hosting that room twice a week for one hour ever since. The simple yet powerful concept of having a space where you get to share what’s going right so we can celebrate you has turned into a community that is bonded and growing personally and professionally in a joyful way even amidst sorrows. The room is open to anyone who wants to join who is looking for a jolt of joy energy. My desire to go deeper with clients and tap into their brilliance and the collective of a group has led to the launch of a once-a-month play shop entitled Joy Seekers. It is a live, on zoom, very interactive space where we dive deep into relevant topics to move the needle on our goals/desires. Lastly, I am reviving my in-person availability as a keynote speaker and breakout facilitator. Here are my three main talks/topics- *Stop the Uncertainty Start Leading with Clarity, Confidence & Commitment *Do Less to BE More* Happiness & Joy are Not the Same.
How’d you meet your business partner?
Remember when I said my life and business changed after attending that event in October of 2016. Well, there is more to the story. I was introduced to a women named Melissa West. I received one of her books as a bonus for attending. Well in January of 2017 I started reading her book and immediately knew I wanted to share this book with my community of clients. I reached out to her to ask her permission. She initially said no. The reason was she had bigger plans for her book. She had envisioned it becoming a workshop, training or possibly a certification. I informed her that I had a background in training & development. We continued our conversation. She gave me permission to run a test group with her book. From there she hired me to work alongside another team member to create the curriculum. Next, she hired me to be the lead facilitator for the certification. Next, she asked me to join her team as an expert coach in her inner circle group. Then another certification. Five years later I am still a proud member of Team Xtreme alongside being the founder of my own company Success Simplified.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Hands down relationship first. It’s in my DNA to build community. To make connections. To support others. To get to know you the person. My clients aren’t a transaction. I absolutely love to network. I have and always will be about quality over quantity.
