Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nina Divina. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Nina, thanks for joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
At Haus of Muse, a queer women-led organization, we are driven by a steadfast commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity. Our purpose is to amplify and uplift performers of all body types, identities, and orientations, providing an equal opportunity platform for artists both seasoned and emerging.
As the sole producer of Haus of Muse, I try to live this mission every day. Not only am I a producer within the NYC nightlife community, I am a performer as well. I’ve performed under all kinds of circumstances and held on to the moments that made me feel seen and valued both as a performer and as a person. This, combined with my personal values, is what sparked the urge to create something of my own here. The goal is and has always been to provide a platform for individuals to succeed, and to actively provide a space that is safe for all bodies and identities. Haus of Muse exists to be a beacon of inclusivity and artistic expression. Our purpose is to break down barriers and provide a stage that transcends stereotypes, amplifying the talents of all performers. What began as a pre-show to a piano bar has become an internationally known entertainment extravaganza, and we have cast and audience alike who travel far and wide to come be a part of the Muse Magic. This community has held space for a wide array of impactful moments such as performance debuts, gender and sexuality exploration and revelations, and more. I believe that as long as there are people on this earth, there will always be a need for art in all its various forms. It is healing, bonding, catharsis, a way in which humans have expressed themselves since the beginning of time. If I can contribute to that, and help others feel seen and valued while doing so, then I’ve done a good job.
Nina, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Nina Divina, and I am the founder of Haus of Muse, a burlesque and nightlife extravaganza that celebrates all bodies and identities.
What began as Muse Mondays at the legendary Stonewall Inn has since blossomed into a cornerstone of the burlesque and nightlife communities. Although our home residency is still at Stonewall, we have also been featured at iconic venues such as The Copacabana, Teatro LATEA, Our Wicked Lady, New Women Space, Dromedary: Coming Out, and Minton’s Playhouse. In 2024, we embraced a new identity as Haus of Muse, reflecting our evolution and our community’s growing support and impact.
Haus of Muse is more than a burlesque show—it is a movement. We are making a significant difference for more and more people every day.
We provide performers and crew with a supportive environment where they can express themselves without fear of discrimination or harm. Vulnerable communities, especially queer and trans folk, often face unsafe working conditions. At Haus of Muse, safety and respect are non-negotiable.
We believe in audience empowerment.
Our shows create a space where audiences can feel seen, celebrated, and empowered to be their authentic selves. We have received heartfelt feedback such as:
“Thank you for giving me a space to exist.”
“Thank you for giving me permission to express myself.”
We model consent and educate our audiences regarding boundaries.
Through our “safety daddies” and clear verbal expectations for behavior at shows, we model best practices for consent and audience etiquette. We have inspired other organizations to adopt our models, spreading a culture of respect and accountability.
We advocate for the growth of the queer community.
When the queer community thrives, society benefits as a whole. We shape cultural movements, push boundaries, and foster creativity. We strive to ensure everyone in our community is cared for and empowered.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Yes! There are many books that have impacted and inspired me, and have been helpful on my journey. Some examples are “Naked” by Fancy Feast, “The Burlesque Handbook” by Jo Weldon, and “Tanqueray” by Brandon Stanton.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I think honesty and consistency are key to our reputation in the industry. I constantly strive to maintain an open line of communication with both my cast/crew and our audience.
