We were lucky to catch up with Nilsa Noel recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Nilsa, thanks for joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
It’s actually the project that I am working on now. Over the past couple of years, I’ve completely changed my lifestyle. I use to have poor eating habits and a slew of health problems, including hair loss. Since I started living a healthier lifestyle, my hair has grown back, my health has drastically increased, I am no longer on any medication, and I feel so much better overall.
I made a YouTube video talking about my journey, specifically the hair loss, and it now has over 150,000 views! I received so many questions and have helped so many people since then. I started a blog (iamnilsa.com) and decided to create a course to help other people transition to a healthier lifestyle. This way they will have all the information that I gathered over the years in one place. I’m still in the process of creating the course, but this is definitely the most meaningful project that I have worked on.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I was in the modeling and entertainment industry previously. I had very bad eating habits and a lot of health problems to go with it. I decided that I needed to change my lifestyle. I focused on a primarily plant based diet, started using all natural skin and hair care products, and started exercising. Since then, my health has drastically increased.
Now, I have focused on creating content surrounding healthy habits. I started taking my social media and website seriously and using it as part of my business. I also create content for brands that share my same values of healthy living and natural products. I am also working on a course to help other people incorporate healthy habits.
Being able to help people is definitely the thing that I am most proud of. I understand how hard it was and how much I had to learn to transition into a healthier lifestyle. just knowing that I am helping other people avoid healthy problems, such as heart disease, but being healthier means so much to me.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I grew up in an environment where nutrition was not important. Our diets were pretty much the same. Fried food, fast food, junk food, etc. was the normal. I had this diet pretty much my whole life.
Between the years 2007 – 2018, I developed a long list of health problems, including hair loss. I was on about 8 different medications. Then one day, I ended up in the hospital, My stomach was inflamed and I could barely walk. I knew I needed to change and take my health seriously.
I started doing tons of research and making changing to my diet. I also learned a lot about ingredients were in my skin and hair care products. So, I started buying and making all natural products. I started making content surrounding healthy living and helping others.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I’ve only recently started taking my social media seriously, but I have learned a few things:
1. Initially, no one cares about you. For example: I made a video about pregnancy and I had less than 100 view. I made a video on how I cured my alopecia areata naturally and I have over 150K view. People will only follow you, watch your videos, or like your content if you are providing value to them.
2. The types of value that you can provide to your audience is entertainment or education.
3. Once you have built a solid community and have a large following, people will care more about your personal life.
4. Content is different on different platforms. What works on Instagram, may not work on YouTube.
5. Grab your audience’s attention in the first few seconds or loose it all together.
6. There is an audience for every niche.
