We were lucky to catch up with Nikole Clemens recently and have shared our conversation below.
Nikole, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
From nanny to mom, my journey led me to create bows inspired by my spirited little wildflower, Jazzelle. As she grew, so did my craft, and now, as a homeschooling mom, I’m turning my passion into a business. Jazzelle joins me in this venture, sharing my love for crafting and entrepreneurship. Together, we’re creating custom, unique, and stylish bows for girls of all ages, making memories along the way. We aspire to empower fellow moms to chase their passions, proving that motherhood doesn’t mean sacrificing your goals and dreams. In fact, sharing the journey with your little ones can be incredibly fulfilling.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Motherhood initially made me worry I’d lose sight of my entrepreneurial dreams. However, during Covid lockdowns, I rediscovered my passion for crafting. With prior experience making bows for my nanny kiddos and my pup, I experimented with vegan leather and created a few new designs.
A Facebook post about Amadio Ranch’s farmers market caught my attention. I took a leap, crafted 50 bows, and set up a table. The near-sellout success sparked a newfound enthusiasm. Regular market participation followed, allowing me to bring custom designs to life and build a sense of community.
I’ve found joy in creating custom bows, crowns, and accessories, while forming friendships and giving back to those in need. This journey has been incredibly fulfilling, and I’m grateful to have turned my passion into a reality.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Participating in local markets and events has been instrumental in acquiring new clients. They have allowed me to connect with customers in person, learn about their interests, share my story and mission, and foster meaningful relationships. Many of these connections have evolved into lasting friendships and loyal supporters.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I’ve encountered markets with low attendance and no sales, leaving me feeling defeated and incurring vendor fee losses. However, I’ve shifted my focus to the positives: forming connections with fellow small business owners, gaining insight into more promising events, and even securing future customers who picked up my business card at seemingly unsuccessful events. Those setbacks have fueled my determination, driving me to work even harder and remain focused.
