Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nikolas Kiriakou. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Nikolas, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
Absolutely, naming a business can be incredibly challenging! When it came to choosing the name for my brand, I decided on “Fourth Floor Photography.” The inspiration came from my very first studio, which was located on the fourth floor of a building. That space holds a lot of significance for me because it’s where my journey as a professional photographer truly began.
I wanted the name to serve as a constant reminder of where I started, keeping me grounded and connected to my roots as the years go by. Every time I hear “Fourth Floor Photography,” it brings back memories of those early days and the passion and dedication that fueled my work. It’s a name that symbolizes growth, perseverance, and the importance of remembering one’s beginnings.
Nikolas, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Of course, I’d be happy to share my story! My name is Nikolas, and I specialize in corporate headshots, weddings, family portraits, and events through my business, Fourth Floor Photography. My journey into the world of photography began when I was just 11 years old. My uncle, who was a photographer and videographer, introduced me to this incredible art form. Seeing the world through his lens sparked a passion within me that has only grown stronger over the years.
My dad bought me my first camera, and I began honing my craft by taking pictures of my family. This was a pivotal moment in my life, as it allowed me to develop my talent and ultimately pursue my dream. This passion and dedication led me to immigrate from Greece to America, where I now make a living doing what I love most.
At Fourth Floor Photography, I provide a range of services, including corporate headshots, weddings, family portraits, and event photography. My goal is to capture the essence of my clients and their special moments, creating timeless images that they can cherish forever. What sets me apart from others in the industry is my commitment to building personal connections with my clients. I believe that understanding their unique stories and personalities is key to delivering truly exceptional photographs.
One of the problems I solve for my clients is helping them feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera. Many people feel uneasy being photographed, but I strive to create a relaxed and enjoyable environment during our sessions. This allows me to capture their genuine expressions and natural beauty.
I am most proud of the relationships I have built with my clients and the trust they place in me to capture their important moments. It is incredibly rewarding to see their joy and satisfaction when they receive their photos. Additionally, the name “Fourth Floor Photography” holds a special place in my heart. It reminds me of my humble beginnings in my first studio on the fourth floor, keeping me grounded and connected to my roots as I continue to grow my business.
To potential clients and followers, I want you to know that my work is driven by passion, dedication, and a genuine love for photography. I am committed to providing you with high-quality, personalized service and creating images that you will treasure for a lifetime. Whether it’s a corporate headshot, a wedding day a family portrait, or capturing the magic of an event, I am here to help you preserve those special moments.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Funding my business was a journey that required both patience and determination. I funded Fourth Floor Photography by working as an EMS driver. The job was demanding, but it allowed me to save up and slowly acquire the gear I needed to go professional.
Each piece of equipment I purchased was a step closer to realizing my dream. I started with the basics and gradually invested in higher-quality cameras, lenses, and lighting. This gradual approach not only allowed me to manage my finances effectively but also gave me the time to master each new piece of equipment.
Working as an EMS driver taught me a lot about perseverance and dedication, qualities that have been invaluable in running my own business. It wasn’t an easy path, but the hard work and sacrifices were worth it. Now, I have a fully equipped studio and the tools necessary to provide my clients with high-quality photography services. Looking back, I’m proud of how far I’ve come and grateful for the journey that has shaped me and my business.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients for me has definitely been word of mouth. There’s nothing quite like a satisfied client sharing their positive experience with friends, family, and colleagues. Personal recommendations carry a lot of weight, and I’ve found that people are more likely to trust and choose a photographer who comes highly recommended by someone they know.
Over the years, I’ve focused on building strong relationships with my clients and ensuring they have a wonderful experience from start to finish. Their kind words and referrals have been instrumental in growing my business. It’s incredibly rewarding to know that my work has left such a positive impression that clients feel confident recommending me to others. This organic growth through word of mouth has been a cornerstone of Fourth Floor Photography’s success.
