Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nikola Wisniewska. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Nikola, thanks for joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Working as a bedside nurse opened my eyes on how the healthcare system was. Nurses were stretched thin, and patients needs were not always met due to paperwork and administrative demands. Patients needed more than just medical care. They needed to be seen, listened to, and understood. They needed someone to guide them through the complexities of their health journey, and to provide them with emotional support. I decided to get out of my comfort zone and seek something that could help me provide a more holistic care for my patients. When I found nurse coaching, I did not know what to expect and jumped into the unknown. Embracing a new role as a coach was scary but worth it. I learned to use my new skills to empower my patients to make healthier choices, manage their chronic conditions, and become the best version of themselves. I realized that taking a risk to become a nurse coach had been one of the best decisions of my life. I don’t have to be confined to hospital protocols and rushed bedside interactions. Working for myself, I can connect with my clients, to understand their fears and hopes, and to guide them on a path toward better health.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a registered nurse, and work as a bedside nurse. I got into coaching to learn and provide a more holistic approach for my patients. After receiving my nurse coaching certifications, I realized I wanted to work for myself and become a coach that works with all kinds of clients. I blend my healthcare experience with transformative coaching to help clients take control of their health. When I work with my clients I guide them, facilitative their growth, and help them reach their goals towards better health and well being.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Being genuine and compassionate about helping people become their best version of themselves. Being able to create a safe space for clients and to truly listen to them, and their needs. Being able to acknowledge all aspects of a client including physical, emotional, spiritual and cultural needs.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
If I could go back, I would still want to be a nurse. I always wanted to be a nurse, and be able to provide a healing environment for my patients. Now that I also work for myself, I am happy that I can provide that for my clients as well.
