We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nikky T a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Nikky, appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Ever since I was a young girl I loved to sing. I grew up in the world of arts through dance. performing and choir. The artistic world was a huge passion of mine, and I knew I would like to continue my life in it. At the age of 17 I was brought into my first recording studio session and from then on I was addicted. I continued to work on creating my own original music, songwriting and vocal production. I was grateful to have had the opportunities to perform shows around my hometown, San Diego, and my now home base, Los Angeles. I continued my passions through attending The Los Angeles Recording School for Music Production. I have been chasing my dreams ever since and I am so grateful to be surrounded by my love for the arts.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Nikky T, I am a singer, songwriter, and dancer from San Diego. I have been given the opportunity to share my art with the world through my music. I have been the most proud of my work when listeners tell me that my music touches them or helps get them through the hard days. When I write and record my music it helps me get through my life experiences, so I am most touched when people get to experience the same feelings I put into my music. Music is a universal language and I hope to touch the lives of many. I hope to continue to make a difference through music.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
There are so many things you can do to help support independent artists but here are 3 great ways below:
1 – Please share our music with friends, family, co-workers, etc. The more our music is shared the more it is heard and played worldwide.
2 – Please repost our music updates on social media. Nowadays, social media is such a great platform and marketing tool. Artists use it to help sell or promote themselves. One share could even help book us a show, gain a new fan, or just help spread the word!
3 – Please buy tickets and come out to see our shows. Venues look at who brings out a big crowd, and who can sell the most tickets. Seeing a good show and helping in the process means so much to us artists!
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I don’t regret anything in the past, as everything leading up to here has been a journey of great lessons for me. However, one thing I would like to share to anyone who is reading and to my younger self – never be afraid to take a chance. In some cases I would hold myself back or be afraid to try new things, but there is nothing wrong with trying and failing, it is all a part of the journey. I am still learning this as some chances and risks can be scary, but the more I let myself fail the more I learn how to do better in the future. Please don’t be afraid to follow your dreams!!!
