Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nikki Novak. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Nikki, thanks for joining us today. So, what do you think about family businesses? Would you want your children or other family members to one day join your business?
I am the daughter of two business owners, so I hold a special place in my heart for family businesses. My dad has had an insurance agency for over 20 years that we have spent so much time at, and have even worked at, over the years. I still enjoy popping into my dad’s office to say hi, hang out and eat lunch, because it’s such a welcoming and familiar environment. My mom had a wonderful Latin coffee shop in Aurora for over a decade and it made such an impact on me and how much I value small business. It was a gathering place for friends, family, and the new friends we made in our regular customers. I got to see my mom and dad work together to build up this incredible business. My brother and I both worked there, never because we had to, but because we loved it. Growing up with parents with these successful businesses that I have always been a part of, along with the encouragement and support of my husband and kids, is what inspired me to start a business of my own.
Owning a business is hard work. It takes a lot of hours, stress, tears and love to make it successful. It’s so special for me to see families supporting and loving each other through that journey. And it makes a difference in the products and services they offer because I think that love and support, and true pride in what they’re offering, is also extended to the customer.
My husband works alongside me, teaching me to use some of the tools, helping with the physical labor involved in setting up and tearing down events, in being a thought partner, and even making some of the jewelry himself! At the end of some days, we are both completely wiped out. But even at the end of those hard days, I still feel so blessed to be doing something that my family can be involved in. I absolutely love hearing my kids talk about “our customers” and show a genuine interest in the work we are doing. They even like to get involved where they can, handing out aftercare kits to our clients.
Would I want them to join my business as employees or partners? Only if they want to. My dream doesn’t have to be theirs, but if it is, Adornable always has a spot for them. They accompany me to my markets now, or hang out in my studio sometimes, but it’s fun for them and I always want it to feel that way. If when they’re older, it’s fun for them to work alongside me, the way that I enjoyed working alongside my mom and dad, then fantastic! But that’s never something I would force on them.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I was born and raised here in Colorado and grew up in the Parker and Aurora areas. I am married with 3 kids, 3 dogs, 3 fish and a frog. Our house is the best kind of chaotic!
I own Adornable Permanent Jewelry, specializing in custom-fit bracelets, anklets and necklaces, that are personalized to each customer to match their unique style. Each of our pieces is expertly fitted, and the ends are safely welded together, eliminating the need for a clasp, and making accessorizing easy. Our jewelry is made from only high quality material that can withstand daily wear for the long term, leaving you with a beautiful piece of jewelry to be worn for years to come.
We help women commemorate the things and people that are important to them by creating a first-class, permanent jewelry experience that can be shared with friends and family while spending quality time together, or enjoyed as a focused, individual experience.
Our mission is to nurture human connection through experience and timeless jewelry. Our vision is a world where every woman feels confident, beautiful, and has relationships worth commemorating.
So many of our clients struggle with this feeling that time is running away from them. Their kids are growing up way too fast. They are always scrambling to take care of everyone else, usually leaving little time to take care of themselves. A simple piece of jewelry has the power to make them feel a little more cared for, but every time they take off a bracelet, it gets forgotten about in the rush of the day, never to be worn again. Enter Adornable Permanent Jewelry. My clients come see me at markets, or book private appointments at my studio in Parker. Sometimes they come alone to do something special for themselves, often times they bring friends or loved ones. We take the time together to pick out the perfect piece of jewelry for them, perhaps adding some charms that are especially meaningful, initials and birthstones are always favorites. Often times loved ones will get matching bracelets or charms in honor of each other. Our clients then walk away with a personalized experience, and a timeless piece of jewelry that both makes them feel beautiful, as well as reminds them of that special day and the special relationships she’ll have, regardless of time.
I am also excited to be adding several pieces of handmade jewelry, including permanent bangles as well as precious metal and gemstone bracelets. This is a big step for my business because of the amount of research and resources it has taken to learn how to make jewelry I can be proud of, as well as jewelry that can withstand daily wear for the long-term. Quality is just as important as beauty when it comes to permanent jewelry, and has to be created differently than jewelry that can be removed.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Truly caring about providing a great experience. I care about each and every one of my customers and do everything in my power to make sure they feel special during the appointment. I also have policies in place to ensure they are happy with their purchase, such as resizing at no cost and fixing any of the jewelry that may have broken. Forming relationships with my clients and treating them well is the best way to grow my clientele because they will tell their friends and family because they want them to have the same great experience.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Providing great customer service, sourcing and making products I am proud of, and working hard to get my name out there. I love doing markets and events, and they are also a fantastic way to get in front of people and let them know about my business. Many people are interested in permanent jewelry, but aren’t ready to commit to it until they have a familiar face that can help answer any questions that they have and walk them through the process. Social media is fun, but there is nothing like meeting people face-to-face.
