We recently connected with Nikki Madden and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Nikki , thanks for joining us today. One deeply underappreciated facet of entrepreneurship is the kind of crazy stuff we have to deal with as business owners. Sometimes it’s crazy positive sometimes it’s crazy negative, but crazy experiences unite entrepreneurs regardless of industry. Can you share a crazy story with our readers?
I love talking about this short, but sweet moment because it is so funny to me when I think back on it now. I was sent a message on Instagram one day a little over a year ago from a client requesting a Glass Portrait Piece to be done for a client of theirs (they were the assistant). Of course, I gave them information about the pricing and sizing and then waited for them to send the picture. When she sent the picture of this basketball player, I responded, “Oh wow, they must be a Dwight Howard fan?!”. She simply messaged me back and said, “Lol, that IS the client”. Needless to say, my mouth dropped ! I was screaming on my side of the phone, but had to keep it cool in my response. That was my first major celebrity client and I was just so grateful and shocked that something I had been praying for was actually happening.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I specialize in abstract, glass, and resin art. My art is unique because every piece is personalized. I take memories and transform them into masterpieces. Not one piece I have created is the same, and I like to use my abstract pieces to inspire others with different inspirational phrases embedded in the piece.
I have always been a creative at heart, but never thought about going into painting until I was hit by the pandemic and sent to work from home. Because of the time I had by being at the house, I was able to pick up inspiration online from different artists I would come across and start something I had never tried before. After while, I created my own lane and haven’t looked back since.
I am so thankful for the path God has me on and hope anybody that does come across this interview is inspired to step out their box .
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
If I’m honest, resilience is a part of the daily life for an artist . You never know who will like or want what you create. You never know if someone will be willing to pay your prices. You never know when you will reach a creative funk. Most times, I have felt creative dry spells after experiencing a climax in my business. I have created pieces and had nothing sell for months, but I was determined to keep pushing because I knew my Art was my purpose. I made sure to stay consistent with my posts and marketing, then finally, in one week, I Sold a piece and gained 3 new commissions. You never know when the day will come, my only focus is that it will.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Social media and I have had a Love/Hate relatioinship since the start of my business due to how the algorithm is set up at times. However, I did learn that Consistency pays off. I started to post content daily in the form of Reels, TikToks, pictures, Videos, or Reviews and noticed an Increase. Also, do not overlook creating Ads on Facebook and Instagram. They reach thousands of people you would never reach on your own. I also aligned myself with some Influencers and Major Viral pages that post my content. Most of my new followers have come from them, Reels, and Ads. The beauty of social media is that you never know when a post might gain a lot of attention and that is why consistency and thoughtful content is key.
