Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nikki Loraine. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Nikki thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I started out really young. Music ran in the family. My mom was in the church choir and her voice came from my grandmother. At the age of 10 my aunts and uncles recognized our musical talents and started a non profit organization that would enable me to learn the behind the scenes of live performances, plus song writing and stage presents, which are ALL essential skills. I performed around the Las Vegas stomping grounds in a 3 girl group. I obtained Classical training through a performing arts Highschool, had the pleasure of being on MTV’s “The Cut”, as a senior. I honestly think that my process was pretty speedy . By the ago of 20 I had my first music television placement.

Nikki , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I go by Nikki Loraine. I’m an independent singer/ songwriter. I started out as a child and moved my way up by networking and research. I made my way into the industry moving around the Vegas music market and eventually L.A. meeting different producers and artist. I started writing songs at the age of 10 and like any craft, the more you do it the better you get. That combined with god given talent gets you in doors you never imagined. What I’m the most proud of are my accomplishments of multiple television placements and just pushing until the wheels fall off. Everyone’s goals are different. My heart if full knowing that I have put out several independent singles all on my own…. With the help of my squad of course.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
My career has been full of pivots. I’m the girl who struggles with consistency. At some point life kicks your butt and tells you, “You need a job!” I have always been a worker bee, because my family wasn’t wealthy. I wanted things and I knew my mother couldn’t provide everything so I kept a job! And that mentality still plays a roll today. I have several hustles and sometimes that takes focus away from your craft. Distractions can equal pivots.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
At this age my goal or mission is to show my child that you can be an entrepreneur. It’s to make him proud of mommas accomplishments. I’ve always said I make music for myself and to be able to leave behind for my son. He can always hear moms voice… ya know?
