We caught up with the brilliant and insightful NIKKI JORDAN a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
NIKKI, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think Corporate America gets wrong in your industry? Any stories or anecdotes that illustrate why this matters?
In the realm of education, we understand that establishing positive relationships with students is vital. However, there’s a risky assumption among administrators and leaders that all educators inherently know HOW to foster such relationships, which is not always the case. I’ve observed over the years how some colleagues struggled to engage with their students, which impacted the students’ learning experience in the classroom. It’s a fact that people, especially students, learn better from those they like and respect. If a student doesn’t connect with or respect a teacher, they might as well throw their lesson plan in the trash.
Positive connections and relationships between students and teachers not only reduce disciplinary issues but also enhance academic performance.

NIKKI, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Nikki Jordan, and I am a proud aunt of seven, a wife for five years, and a mother to one beautiful baby girl. In 2016, I unofficially began my business journey after using the hashtag “#confidenceatanysize” in an Instagram post. The positive response to subsequent posts using the same hashtag inspired me to create a new Instagram page called Confidence at any Size, and the rest is history.
My primary goal with my business is to empower others to build confidence in all aspects of their lives, with a current focus on relationships. Specifically, I assist educators and youth organizations in fostering positive relationships with their students. During my time as an educator, I witnessed firsthand the importance of the student-teacher relationship and noticed the lack of resources available to address this crucial area.
I accomplish this through training sessions, workshops, and coaching services. My aim is to help educators and mentors master the skill of cultivating positive relationships with young people, which will enable them to make a meaningful impact on the next generation.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I feel like I’m in the middle of a pivot right now. I originally started out serving women and teen girls and now I am catering towards educators of all genders. However, it makes sense. Education is my background and my passion. I just display it in a very specific way and want to help others do the same.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
My sweat equity! I am confident that my colleagues and business partners recognize the rapport I establish with young people and the positive responses I receive. This connection has enabled me to build a solid reputation on school campuses and beyond.
However, one particular video I posted on social media in 2022 significantly contributed to my growing recognition. In the video, I revealed to a cafeteria full of students that I was pregnant with my now 1-year-old daughter. The students’ reaction was overwhelming – they cheered, jumped with excitement, and showed genuine enthusiasm. But what really took me over the edge is when they rushed to the stage where I stood to offer me hugs and congratulations. Their heartfelt gestures brought me to tears. Through this video, it was evident that I was more than just a teacher; I had made a meaningful impact on these students, and this moment gave them a platform to express their emotions openly.
Sharing this video played a significant role in establishing a public reputation for me.
