Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nikki Henry. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Nikki, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start on the operational side – do you spend more of your time/focus/energy on growing revenue or cutting costs?
I spend more time focusing on growing revenue, while also keeping my business “lean” operationally. Growing revenue and cutting costs often go hand in hand but a smart person once said “Scared money doesn’t make money”. That quote has been a big lesson for me in my entrepreneurial journey. Growing revenue often means trying new things that often cost money. Similarly, I have found that it is important to focus on creating constantly by cultivating new ideas to grow my brand. Often time I would wait to be inspired to create but I have learned to be more proactive in the creative process, a necessity in establishing a viable business.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a native Philadelphian. I started making bags and then accessories on a whim. From the start I was primarily interested in making leather products. An acquaintance taught me how to sew and since then I am continually learning new skills and honing my craft through workshops, seminars etc. As of now I still make all product samples and prototypes in house and we do small batch production with a woman owned sewing collective based out of New York.
My mission is to marry trendy fashion concepts with a timeless aesthetic. Our slogan is Casual. Chic Forever. Whether its upcycled denim or camouflage print products we put our twist on what’s hot by adding chic, upscale styling.
I love to read comments on our social media pages from customers saying that they purchased an NKHenry bag and they love it. Even more so when a repeat customer sing our praises. The goosebumps that I get when that happens never gets old.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
If you want to be an entrepreneur of any kind resilience needs to be your middle name! You will have slow times, with little to no revenue coming in and there are times when your creative juices are just not there. And through those times you have you remember your vision and have a desire to wait out or go around the obstacles. The entrepreneur life is certainly not easy.

Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
We keep in touch with customers primarily through email. Building a strong email list has been crucial to the brand. We offer list only sales and special discounts that keep them coming back. Going the extra mile by adding a free gift to orders is an unexpected surprise that our customers love too.
