We were lucky to catch up with Nikki Dunkle recently and have shared our conversation below.
Nikki, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
As a 25-year-old small business owner and Real Estate Broker, I can tell you that determination drives any successful venture. Building and growing a business is a challenging and often unpredictable journey. There will be obstacles, setbacks, and failures, but your determination will keep you pushing forward and ultimately lead to success.
Being determined means having a clear vision of what you want to achieve and being willing to work hard to make it happen. It means being resilient in the face of challenges and setbacks and never giving up on your goals. As a small business owner, determination will keep you going through long hours, difficult decisions, and periods of slow growth.
But determination alone is not enough. Having a plan, being adaptable, and continuously learning and improving are essential. Success is not achieved overnight, and it takes a combination of determination and strategic thinking to get there.
So if you’re considering starting your own business, remember that determination is key. Believe in yourself and your vision, and be prepared to work hard and stay committed to your goals. With determination and perseverance, you can overcome any obstacle and achieve success.
Nikki, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
In 2019, I started marketing myself as becoming a Real Estate Broker. However, when the pandemic hit, in-person marketing became impossible. I had to think outside the box and find creative ways to market myself and my business. That’s when I discovered the power of social media. When a video of my home build went viral on TikTok, I realized my true passion for social media marketing.
Since then, I’ve provided my services to local small businesses, and other Real Estate Agents to help them develop successful brand awareness through creative marketing strategies. My ultimate passion is working with fellow entrepreneurs, connecting them with the latest marketing tools, and helping them take their brands to the next level.

What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
Yes, but I did not expect social media would become my side hustle, but it did. In 2019, I got my Real Estate license and started posting about being an agent and what business was like in real estate. Then 2020 hit, and all the tools I would usually pull out to generate clients became almost impossible, so I turned to lead generation through social media.
A close friend in the real estate industry noticed I was generating leads from my social platforms and asked me to help them build their social media profiles to help them gain an audience on social media. From there, I was hired as their company’s full-time social media manager and helped them scale their business. I gained a lot of resources and referrals, which inspired me to start a social media management company.
Now, I run a social media management/Social media strategy company called KNDI Media which goes hand-in-hand with my Real Estate business. The marketing world is constantly changing, and luckily we are quick to hop on the trends to help further our clients generate leads or brand awareness the organic way.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Last year took a significant toll on my business. I had just gotten out of a long relationship with someone I was in business with, had to move out of state, and was dealing with physical health issues that had me in and out of the hospital.
This was a difficult time I had to navigate because my income and expenses got tighter, I could not carry the load of clients I once had, and the real estate market took a pause that shocked us all (most of my social media clients are real estate agents).
At that time, I had to step back and determine if the products I offered benefited or intrigued clients and had to teach myself how to market to a broader audience.
I decided to network and connect with others in the industry. Together we created affordable packages and incorporated other business professionals so that I could not have to do all the work but could also onboard more clients. This way of streamlining my business helped get my name, and other business professionals’ names out there, along with building my income back up and bringing back the inspiration I had when I started my business.
