Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nikki Creacy . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Nikki, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard.
It is typical in our industry to charge a (required) gratuity in addition to the initial service cost. However, We prefer to allow our clients to tip an amount that they are comfortable with based on the service and experience that they received from our team of hairstylists & makeup artists, rather than a specific & required percentage. We believe that gratuity should not be required but should always be appreciated.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I graduated from The Salon Professional Academy in February of 2012. Prior to graduating from TSPA, I began my journey in the bridal industry. It didn’t take long for me to realize that bridal hair & makeup was my passion. I spent the first few years after graduating trying to find the perfect fit. I worked for a couple different on-site hair & makeup companies along the way, but none of them ever felt like home. In 2019, with a lot of courage and a little fear, I launched my first luxury on-site hair & makeup company, Nikki Creacy Hair Design & Makeup Artistry. I spent a few years building my business & clientele, following my dreams, continuing my training, furthering my education & falling even more in love with the bridal industry as a whole. Along with bridal hair & makeup, I have a passion for business. In May of 2021, I graduated with a degree in Business Management. Not long after that I was presented with an opportunity of a lifetime. I was given the opportunity to purchase Posh Beauty & I did just that. In less than 48 hours, I made the decision to merge my existing company with Posh Beauty, take on another team, a full wedding/event schedule & a store front (during prime wedding season!). I went from a team that consisted of myself & two makeup artists with roughly 50 weddings per year to having one of the largest & most talented teams of freelance hair stylists & makeup artists in the St. Louis area with roughly 150 weddings per year! However, I did not stop there! Posh has recently expanded our on-site hair & makeup services to the Kansas City area! To some it seems like chaos, to me it feels like home.
As the owner & lead hairstylist/makeup artist of Posh Beauty, I offer on-site & in-studio hair & makeup services for weddings & other special events. As well as handle all communications & wedding/event scheduling for all of our clients & the Posh Beauty team. After many years in the beauty industry, I still enjoy every bit of what I do because I have found a good balance & mix of both being on-site/in-studio & behind the scenes. This mix brings me joy on a daily basis.
I think what sets me apart from others in my industry is my attention to detail & communication. I am very organized, stay in constant communication with our team & I am readily available to all of our clients from the time that they book with Posh Beauty up until the completion of their event (& if necessary, even after!).
I am most proud of the continued success of Posh Beauty as a whole. We continue to grow & surpass the previous year in every way possible & I will strive to do so each & every year moving forward for both myself & the Posh Beauty team. However, none of this would even be possible without the support of my family, friends, every single client & freelance hairstylist & makeup artist that has crossed paths with Posh Beauty.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
I would advise anyone managing a team (of any size) to constantly pour into those that you expect to pour into you & your company. I suggest that you get to know your team on a personal level, learn their talents, their strengths & help them with their weaknesses. In order to maintain a high team morale, it is helpful to stay consistent, to always be in communication with your team, to offer continued training & education & to host team gatherings. Most importantly, I think you should treat everyone with respect & often express your appreciation for each & everyone of them.
Owning/managing an on-site hair & makeup company is SO MUCH MORE than “just doing hair & makeup”. I can honestly say that cosmetology school helped me with my skill set alone but my business management degree has been a crucial part of my success & my ability to manage a team of this size.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I think that the relationships that have been built along the way with our clients, freelance hair stylists/makeup artists & other wedding vendors have helped build a reputation for both myself & Posh Beauty.
