We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nikita Verenych a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Nikita, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
My siblings and I were brought up in a nurturing and loving Christian household. Our parents, a steadfast presence throughout both joyous and challenging moments, consistently reminded us not to prioritize the pursuit of money but rather to follow our true callings. Their advice has always been clear – to keep God above all things.
The unwavering support and consistent presence of our parents, has developed in me a trust and belief in their guidance and wisdom. In moments of uncertainty, whether it be investing into a whole new venture, exploring new opportunities, or navigating relationships, their support and mentorship have been a constant source of strength. Their consistency has shaped my understanding of the importance of staying true to our purpose and prioritizing faith over material pursuits.
Nikita, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve always had an appreciation for art and photography, but I only got into professional photography about 3 years ago. As I’ve grown and matured understanding my self more, I realized that I needed creative avenues to express my self, and capturing visuals and creating art in that world made sense. In the realm of photography, my focus extends to various genres, with a particular love for capturing the dynamic energy of concerts. There’s something magical about freezing the intensity of live performances, and I find joy in translating those moments into visual stories. Additionally, my penchant for editorial and documentary-style photography allows me to delve into the narratives that unfold in everyday life, providing a unique perspective that resonates with viewers.
For me, photography is not just about images, but it’s about evoking emotions and creating a connection between the viewer and the captured moment. I believe in the power of visuals to tell compelling stories and convey feelings that words might fail to express. I believe that my approach to photography brings depth to the photos, and most if not all of my past clients have mentioned that the photos that I delivered to them were much more than just photos, but they were captured moments.
I’m most proud of the fact that I’ve been trusted by clients and friends to photograph their shows, brands, or portraits, with the go-ahead to bring my style and approach to their work, instead of just being given references to copy. I’m thankful to those who believe in my work, and I always aim to make sure to bring to the table, that which has all my effort and heart invested into it, with the goal to always meet the clients vision, and have the ability to offer more and go beyond.
Beyond photography, my creative journey extends to the world of music. Whether it’s crafting melodies or expressing emotions through lyrics, though private at the moment, music is another avenue where I channel my artistic energy.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
It’s always special to me when you can create something that was never there before, being a song, a photo or just art, and then have people tell you that they love what you made. It’s rewarding and it validates all the hard work and time that goes into creating and doing the work behind the scenes. You sometimes just don’t know if you’re putting in the work and time into something that the world will appreciate, or if it’ll just get scrapped in the end.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I feel like I can answer this question in a lot of different ways, but to me it comes down to expressing myself in one of the few ways that I know how, and trying to bring something that contains value to others. Art is very special to me, and when I see certain photos or pieces, I get this feeling inside that draws me to the art and it becomes more than just a photo to me. My goal is to create art that is more than just a photo or a song, but that it would make the audience feel what I do in that particular moment.
