We were lucky to catch up with Nikita Jhaveri recently and have shared our conversation below.
Nikita, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear how you think where to draw the line in terms of asking friends and family to support your business – what’s okay and what’s over the line?
I think asking your friends and family to support your business is a vital key to feeling empowered. To have a village cheering you on every step of the way is something that keeps me going. Support from friends and family does not always have to be in the form of monetary or them being an actual paying client; it also can come from them meeting you for coffee to check in, or giving you ideas and even something as simple as liking a post on social media. There are several forms of support that are beneficial to any business owner.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a first generation US citizen and second generation entrepreneur. I was born in raised in Colorado and received my education and The University of Colorado in Boulder. I started in the beauty industry at a young age being a receptionist of a salon. The feeling you see women get after getting beauty services done has always attracted me to this industry. I have never had the itch to be behind the chair offering the actual service, but instead I loved the customer relations aspect of it and learning more about running a business in the industry. I think this sets Blush a part from others because I know I have the business tools to run a successful business and I am able to collaborate with creative minds that do the services. Together we are able to create great synergy!
I am most proud of our customer service. Making a working mom, woman entrepreneur, a stay at home mom, etc feel confidence by offering them beauty services in the comfort of their own home is priceless. As beauty professionals we are here to make you look and feel beautiful for whatever occasion you have!
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I had to pivot when I had my second child. My life was consumed by employees and I would put them in front of my family constantly. I needed to re focus my attention. The best way to do this was to leave my workplace of 13 years and take a risk to start my own business. I have been able to re-balance and find time to be a mom as well as an entrepreneur by resetting.
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
Blush was a side hustle for a little over a year. I had a full time change and would work on the business plan at night or on my days off. The potential I saw in it while it was initially a side hustle slowly started to become clearer. It started with just 1 client a month and progressed into several. Putting in the time to network and spread the word is what really got it over the hump of turning into a full time job. Key milestones: First client October 2020. Full Time Business: January 2022.
