We were lucky to catch up with Nikita Coulombe recently and have shared our conversation below.
Nikita, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’ve love to hear an interesting investment story – what was one of the best or worst investments you’ve made? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
All I can say is that I wish that I invested in myself sooner. The worst investment I made was giving my time away to people who didn’t value it. As you get older, time becomes a precious resource. You realize that every moment you have a choice around how you can spend it, whether it’s taking action or improving your inner dialogue. Spend time with people who have your best interests at heart, treat yourself like someone you are responsible for helping, and always be open to learning something new.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a painter. I think my range of interests and abilities is what sets me apart – I love working in different mediums and tackling different subjects from wildlife to the abstract. The collaborative process of working with clients and collectors is also something that I enjoy. Creativity is like a conversation that you can have with yourself or with any number of people.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Being an artist is (or should be) liberating.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
You can liberate yourself further if you have other tools in your toolbox than a strong sense of expression. Every artist has their own path so I don’t think there’s a one-size-fits-all roadmap, however, if I could wind the clock back, I would have gone to business school and attended an atelier rather than get an art degree.
