We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Niki Lopez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Niki, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to start by getting your thoughts on what you are seeing as some the biggest trends emerging in your industry
Our industry is one that has thrived during pandemic. With businesses being forced to quickly change course in a more virtual world, our particular business is in high demand. Businesses need new websites and better virtual ways to communicate with clients. In addition, many of them needed to update their messaging to reflect the uncertain times we live in, so we grew rapidly in the last two years. I hear from colleagues in the industry that the same is happening to them.
Even with the world returning to normal, virtual and hybrid business models are here to stay. Digital marketing and businesses reaching their clients virtually is going to stay necessary, and this is good news for our particular industry.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Authentic relationships and earned credibility. Cornerstones that summarize who I am as a person, a professional and a business-owner. Following a career as a producer and sports reporter for Denver Metro Area’s NewsRadio 850 KOA, I found my true passion for marketing when I worked as a marketing director for a small, family-owned contracting company and as a franchise marketing consultant for a large national franchise organization. In these positions, I discovered I had a knack for artfully and successfully advising franchise-owners on how to make their local markets work for them. Trailing this momentum and leveraging my extensive media contacts, along with my native-born knowledge of Colorado and the Denver market, I established Focus Marketing & PR in 2009, as an online boutique marketing and public relations firm in Denver. Our Mission: To help business-owners achieve their dreams and goals through smart, effective marketing and PR strategies. We have the integrity, professionalism and quality you would expect from a large practice executed through the personal touch of a boutique firm.
Today, Focus has a small, yet mighty team of highly talented professionals with more than 45-years of combined expertise in media relations, digital marketing, social media, and beyond. We share a common devotion to effective communication, meticulous story-telling and genuine interpersonal marketing and public relations, no matter the industry. And it’s with this foundation we achieve immediate needs and long-term business objectives and goals for our small- to medium-sized clients. We offer comprehensive and customizable packages to help clients maintain and secure client engagement and activity using tactics, such as production and distribution, broadcast services, campaign and event management, Google AdWords, social media and website design. We also provide in-depth analysis and measurement of these efforts. And as an added bonus, our signature public relations solutions and strategies can be added to any digital marketing campaign to boost credibility and increase exposure among local and national news media outlets. It’s the ideal pairing to rise above any noise as technology advances and social trends evolve. Our current client line-up represents industries, including residential services, compliance, personal care services, home décor and academia.
We encourage an authentic work and life balance, and are committed to providing our team with family-friendly professional practices, including those that make room for successful child-rearing, youth-sports coaching, garden-tending and academic-advancing.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I was pregnant with my first-born (now 12-years-old), I was placed on bed rest. With little warning, I gathered up my pillows, blankets and other necessary luxuries of bed-bound comfort, and created a workspace in my bed, where I would remain with as little mobility as possible. For two months, I conducted all Focus Marketing & PR-related operations, including client meetings, media interviews and more, propped up against my pillows and surrounded by minimal office supplies. Despite the non-traditional work environment, I successfully obtained two new clients and grew Focus’ monthly revenue. My bed-ridden experience factors in greatly to Focus’ mantra for maintaining a work-life balance, and for never turning our backs on family and friends in need.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Leveraging my extensive media contacts, along with my native-born knowledge of Colorado and the Denver market.
