We recently connected with Niki J. Borger and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Niki J. thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I believe that success is a combination of internal alignment and external action. From my experience, achieving any type of success is nearly impossible if you doubt you will or you hold more negative feelings towards the goal and its process than positive ones. So, you have to believe that you can accomplish what you desire. Your excitement about that has to be bigger than your fear. And then you need to have enough courage to consistently move forward, to learn and grow from setbacks rather than taking them personally, and to persist until you are where you want to be.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m an international actor, writer and producer, originally from Germany and now based in Los Angeles. I focus on uplifting, entertaining and heartfelt stories that bring people together and inspire them in their own lives.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
I believe in inspirational leadership. Whenever I lead a team, be it the professional dance group I lead back in Germany, the members of my non-profit BIF, or any film I produce, I do my best to lead by example. I would never ask anyone to do something I haven’t done first. I’ll share exactly how I did it and why I did it, so the member of my team can make adjustments that suit them better. If it’s something they know much better than I do, I let them run me through the process until I understand it, so I can ask qualified questions that lead to a new idea for a solution. And if morale runs low, I do my best to remind each and every one in my team, how amazing they are, what all they bring to the table, and how happy I am that they are a part of my team.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is seeing how my art touches people’s hearts. It’s the most beautiful thing in the world, when I get to talk to someone after a show or a screening, and they tell me which part of my performance or the story resonated with them and why. I love it when people tell me how my art made them feel, or think, or just be. It is such a beautiful experience and such a blessing to be able to do this work!
