We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Niki Dawson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Niki below.
Niki, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I think I may have been just like every other kid that thought it would be cool to sing after watching Cheetah Girls lol And thankfully I kept trying & exploring things that involved singing. Over time, each win confirmed that maybe I should take things a bit more seriously. I think finding ‘your’ path is giving things a try & learning what sticks!
Niki, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a professional vocalist that can write, & produce. I’ve been so blessed to have appeared & worked on a few musical projects. Appearing on NBC’s ‘The Voice’ at 18, and a few years later I had the chance to be on ‘American Idol’, sing in Vegas & other fun singing competitions. I’m also a designer & owner of an apparel company in my spare time when I’m not doing a show or making music. I can say growing up in a military family home, the art of discipline & focus prepped me in how I’ve accomplished what I’ve done so far!
I had to take time away from music for a few years due to a medical allergic reaction to prescribed medication. Relearned how to eat, walk, & sing again. Now, I appreciate life so much more & try to put a smile on someone’s face whenever I can! Advocating self love in my visual, audio, & online content, for survivors of all types & walks of life.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I hope non-creatives understand the journey of creativity can be found as a soul enriching experience for creatives. And that can tend to be extremely valuable. Especially if it gives life purpose or fulfillment to individuals. Just Live, and let Live!
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I feel the most rewarding aspect of being a creative is connecting/helping people through your art! It’s always so incredible to hear people enjoy the things that you work so hard on. It truly makes all of the difference as a curator.
