We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nikhita Buddhiraju a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Nikhita thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Thinking back on my career, one moment stands out: the decision to switch gears from tech to motion design.
Originally, I was all set to stay in California and attend one of the UCs, specifically Berkeley. But then I landed an internship with Girls Who Code at Disney. I was heavily inspired by such creative minds. This was something I had never experienced before. I got to go behind the scenes and really explore the type of work and software they used daily. I would say that was the turning point in my life.
That experience made me rethink everything. I ended up choosing Ringling College instead, where I taught myself design basics before even starting classes. With my music background, I started blending visuals with my own soundtracks.
It wasn’t always smooth sailing—learning design on my own was a challenge. But every breakthrough fueled my passion even more. Now, I’m a motion designer full time. I like to mesh the worlds of code with design.
Looking back, taking that risk was scary but totally worth it. It’s shaped my career into something uniquely mine, where I get to create art that speaks to people on a whole new level.

Nikhita, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I entered the world of design through a tech background, which gave me a solid foundation in understanding the intricacies of digital environments. My journey into motion design began with a passion for creating dynamic visual experiences that tell compelling stories.
I specialize in both 3D and 2D design and animation, which allows me to bring concepts to life across various platforms and media. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working on projects for industry giants like Apple, CNBC, and Sony. These experiences have sharpened my ability to deliver high-quality, impactful visual content that resonates with audiences.
What sets me apart is my versatility. As a drummer, I bring a rhythmic sensibility to my work, enhancing the timing and flow of animations and edits. This unique combination of technical proficiency and creative flair has really helped me in the field of motion design. I feel like I’ve gotten the opportunity to work on such a large variety of projects, taking the role of a editor, sound designer, and even an experimental artist.
I take pride in my ability to collaborate closely with clients to understand their vision and translate it into stunning visual narratives. Whether it’s crafting animations that simplify complex ideas or designing immersive experiences, I strive to exceed expectations and deliver results that make a lasting impression.
I’m excited to continue pushing boundaries in motion design and exploring new ways to merge technology with creativity

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being a creative is the incredible community of artists and professionals that I have the privilege to collaborate with. In this industry, I’ve had the opportunity to work alongside so many talented individuals whose creativity and dedication constantly inspire me.
What I truly cherish is the humility among fellow artists. Everyone brings their unique perspectives and skills to the table, creating an environment where learning and growth are constant. I find immense joy in absorbing new techniques, exploring different artistic styles, and exchanging ideas with my peers.
The collaborative spirit in the creative industry not only enhances the quality of our work but also fosters a supportive network where we can push boundaries and innovate together. Whether it’s brainstorming ideas for a project or sharing feedback on each other’s work, these interactions fuel my passion and drive for what I do.
Above all, I am grateful for the friendships and professional relationships that have formed through these experiences. Building connections with like-minded creatives has enriched my journey and continues to motivate me to strive for excellence in every project.
I believe that this sense of community and mutual respect is what makes the creative industry truly special. It’s not just about individual achievements but about the collective spirit of collaboration that propels us forward

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My creative journey is a blend of storytelling and problem-solving. I see myself as a storyteller who uses motion design to tackle creative challenges and communicate ideas effectively.
Every project presents its own set of creative problems to solve—whether it’s finding the right visual style to convey a brand’s identity or crafting animations that engage and inform audiences. I thrive on the process of brainstorming solutions and translating concepts into compelling visual narratives.
As a motion designer, I’m passionate about using my skills to create immersive experiences that resonate with viewers. Whether it’s through 3D animations that bring products to life or 2D designs that simplify complex information, my goal is to deliver solutions that exceed expectations and leave a lasting impression.
Collaboration is key to my approach. By working closely with clients and fellow creatives, I leverage diverse perspectives and collective expertise to refine ideas and achieve creative excellence.
Ultimately, I’m driven by the opportunity to tell stories that inspire, educate, and provoke thought. Through my work, I aim to make a meaningful impact, solving creative challenges while crafting narratives that captivate and connect with audiences on a deeper level.
